Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever unknowingly returned from the NATO summit with a loaded, personalized revolver — a gift from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The package wasn't opened until the delegation had landed back in Belgium. To everyone's surprise, it contained not only the revolver, but also live ammunition. The weapon was immediately turned over to airport police. What will ultimately happen to Erdoğan's rather unusual diplomatic gift remains undecided. (July 12, 2026)
Palm Beach has officially renamed its airport President Donald J. Trump International Airport, just a few miles from Mar-a-Lago. And the very first plane to land there after the name change was, of course, his own.
More than 8 million travelers will now have to spell out the new name, while the airport code PBI has been graciously spared — at least until August 18. Officials insist it's nothing more than new signage, as if a name were ever just a sign. While other countries name airports after people who made their mark on history, this one has chosen to honor a man who's still alive — and who has always seemed most interested in honoring himself. Trump's tariff policy is hurting the American economy instead of helping it. Since January 2025, about 75,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost, including nearly 26,000 in the automotive industry. At the same time, the tariffs are driving up production costs, even though Trump claims that foreign companies are paying for them. According to the Anderson Economic Group, it is primarily American businesses, workers, and consumers who are bearing the financial burden. Tariffs on vehicles and auto parts imported from Canada and Mexico alone have increased the manufacturing cost of a vehicle built in the United States by an average of about $1,600, leading the authors to describe them as a "Trump tax." Donald Trump confused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with Vladimir Putin during a joint appearance at the NATO summit in Turkey on Wednesday, stunning onlookers. Speaking alongside Mr Zelensky at the Bestepe Presidential Compound, the US President pointed towards the Ukrainian leader and asked reporters: “Do you have a question for President Putin?”. The eighty-year-old president announced that 111 missiles from the Islamic Republic of Japan had been fired at the USS Abraham Lincoln, all of them intercepted, before turning to President Zelenskyy and calling him Putin. Germany's deportation machinery is running at full speed. We look across the Atlantic at ICE as though it were a distant disease that has nothing to do with us, while overlooking the fact that the very same machinery has long been operating at our own airports, in the early hours of the morning when no one is watching. The flights keep increasing, the methods grow harsher by the day. What was an exception yesterday has become routine administrative procedure today, and once something becomes an administrative procedure, it disappears from public view. ICE is therefore not a foreign name. It is a mirror. And the distance we believe we feel is not measured in miles across an ocean. Trump Calls for U.S. Control of Greenland. Donald Trump has once again renewed his call for the United States to take control of Greenland. Speaking on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Ankara, the President said Greenland should be controlled by the United States, not Denmark. He also claimed the island is surrounded by Chinese and Russian ships and indirectly threatened to withdraw American troops from Europe. "They better be careful," Trump said, referring to America's European allies. His remarks further escalate tensions with NATO member Denmark and add to growing strains within the alliance. U.S. Launches New Strikes on Iran - Ceasefire on the Brink of Collapse. The United States launched new strikes against targets in Iran overnight after Tehran allegedly attacked three ships in the Strait of Hormuz, according to U.S. officials. At the same time, Washington revoked Iran's ability to openly sell crude oil on the global market. Tehran immediately vowed to take whatever measures it deems necessary in response. The already fragile ceasefire is now once again on the verge of collapse. In Bahrain, home to the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet, missile warning sirens sounded following the American strikes. The risk of a renewed military escalation across the Middle East has increased significantly. (July 8, 2026)

“We’ve probably had the best year any American president has ever had. We have the greatest economy we’ve ever had. We have $19.2 trillion being invested in the United States. It’s a world record.” Fact check: No, it is not “the greatest economy ever.” Not even close. Biden left office with 2.8% GDP growth and a 4.0% unemployment rate. Today, under Trump, GDP growth is about 2.1%, while unemployment stands at 4.2%. (July 7, 2026)
