07:17 AM Trump Doesn't Get the Nobel Peace Prize and Promptly Declares Norway a Disgrace
Donald Trump didn't get the Nobel Peace Prize again, and this time he went straight after Norway over it. He called the decision "shameful" and said it had left an "indelible stain" on the country. He called Nobel laureate Navi Pillay a "mysterious person" whom supposedly nobody had ever heard of. While he was at it, Trump described the Nobel Committee as a bunch of radical ideologues and "enemies of civilization." As proof that he deserved the Peace Prize himself, he rattled off conflicts he claimed to have prevented or resolved. He offered no evidence, but plenty of self-confidence. The Peace Prize stayed in Oslo. The bitter whining followed him all the way to Syracuse.

03:25 PM 78 Percent Blame Trump for Rising Prices: Even Republicans Are Losing Confidence
A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows a major problem for Trump ahead of the midterms: 78 percent of respondents say his policies bear at least some responsibility for the rising cost of living. Even among Republicans, 64 percent say the White House shares the blame, while 57 percent say their expenses are rising faster than their incomes. The numbers are especially bad on inflation: 68 percent of all respondents and 40 percent of Republicans are unhappy with Trump’s handling of it. Gas averaged $4.36 a gallon nationwide on Thursday, while diesel stood at $6.28. Tariffs, the Iran war, and rising energy costs are widely seen as drivers of higher prices. For 54 percent, the cost of living has gone up significantly, and financial pressure has become one of the most important issues shaping how people plan to vote. Even where Trump still has political support, the economic reality is visibly eating into it.

Nord Stream Back in Business: U.S. and Russia Explore Gas Sales to Europe
Senior U.S. and Russian officials have discussed bringing an American investor into the Nord Stream pipelines and restarting Russian gas deliveries to Germany. Jared Kushner and Putin confidant Kirill Dmitriev were among those involved in the talks. Such a deal could allow U.S. investors to profit from future energy business with Europe. Major obstacles remain, however, since Nord Stream is under U.S. and EU sanctions, Germany opposes restarting the pipelines and points to alternative gas supplies. Before the war in Ukraine, Germany got more than half of its gas from Russia. Critics in Berlin are warning about a deal in which Americans and Russians could profit while Europe bears the political and security costs. At the same time, there are also talks about a possible sale of Lukoil assets to a consortium involving a U.S. federal investment agency and investors from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

07:44 PM Judge Tears Into Trump’s White House Press Ban: Government Has to Prove Its National Security Arguments First
U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly described key government arguments in the dispute over the White House press ban as an “uphill climb” and a “tough lift.” He also demanded that the government spell out exactly which national security interests were supposedly being threatened by the media outlets involved. The Justice Department said the issue was not only national security, but also allegedly false reporting that could influence policy decisions. Government attorney Michael Velchik said Trump had no problem with negative coverage, but did have a problem with verifiably false claims. The plaintiffs accused the administration of deliberately discriminating against viewpoints and reporting it does not like. Attorney Theodore J. Boutrous Jr. called that a content-based restriction on speech and a clear violation of the First Amendment.
07:20 PM Vance Accuses Microsoft of Fraud and Suspends Company From Green Card Program
The Trump administration is suspending Microsoft from a program that allows companies to apply for green cards for employees with H-1B visas. Vice President JD Vance justified the move with allegations of fraud against the company. He claimed that for every American worker Microsoft laid off, the company effectively replaced that worker with one and a half foreign workers. The decision was announced at a White House press conference. The H-1B program has long been criticized by Trump supporters, who say it disadvantages American workers and is vulnerable to abuse.
06:38 AM Trump Wants to Charge International Students Up to $70,000 for Work Authorization
The Trump administration is planning drastically higher fees for international students who want to work in the United States during or after their studies. F-1 students would have to pay $70,000 for what is known as Optional Practical Training, up from around $500 today. Another $30,000 would be due for additional practical training. The Department of Homeland Security says the move is aimed at fighting fraud, protecting American workers, and tightening control of the immigration system. It would especially affect international graduates in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, for whom OPT often serves as the bridge to an H-1B visa. The proposal will first go through a 30-day public comment period and, according to critics, is likely to face a court challenge.

04.44 PM 84 Percent See AI as a Threat to Jobs: Majority Says Trump and Congress Are Not Doing Enough
A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows just how much distrust of artificial intelligence has grown in the United States. 84 percent of registered voters see AI as a threat to American jobs. 57 percent say the Trump administration is not taking the risks seriously enough, or at all, while 54 percent say the same about Congress. 62 percent fear AI could get out of control and threaten the future of humanity. At the same time, a bipartisan majority supports stricter government regulation, including 80 percent of Democrats and 61 percent of Republicans. 56 percent also want limits on the construction of new data centers. Skepticism is especially strong when it comes to the military: 57 percent oppose allowing AI to determine targets for military strikes. The poll surveyed 4,506 adults, including 3,526 registered voters, and has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
06:08 AM North Korea Backs China on Taiwan and Promises Continued Support for Russia
North Korea is sharply attacking the United States over its arms sales to Taiwan and warning Washington against a direct confrontation with China. Kim Jong Un had already pledged Xi Jinping his full support for the “One China” principle in June. At the same time, Kim reaffirmed continued cooperation with Russia in a birthday message to Vladimir Putin and described its war as a “sacred war of justice” that would end in victory. According to Ukrainian and South Korean estimates, North Korea has sent around 14,000 to 15,000 troops to support Russia since 2024. Relations between Pyongyang and Moscow have grown significantly closer since their mutual defense pact in 2024.
