02:52 PM No change: Trump's ceasefire is already going up in flames: Russia attacks Kharkiv's power plants
According to Ukrainian officials, Russia has attacked a thermal power plant in Kharkiv, even though Donald Trump announced a ceasefire on strikes against energy facilities over the weekend. President Zelenskyy accuses Moscow of violating an agreement whose exact terms he says he doesn't even know yet. Trump is demanding that Kyiv stop attacking Russian oil refineries, while the U.S. has also reached a deal to buy Russian diesel. According to a person familiar with the situation, the U.S. even threatened to cut off intelligence sharing and weapons deliveries to Ukraine. Ukrainian officials say Russian attacks killed 6 people on Sunday, while at least 12 were injured in Kharkiv on Monday. Meanwhile, the EU approved nearly 1,600 new sanctions listings targeting Russia's defense industry. Zelenskyy said he would be willing to hold new elections if Putin agreed to a 60-day ceasefire. While Trump worries about diesel prices and his Republicans ahead of the midterm elections, a power plant is burning in Kharkiv that, according to his announcement, should have been left untouched. The EU is tightening sanctions on Russia's defense industry, but there's still no united response to Trump's pressure on Ukraine. French President Macron openly contradicts the American account, while Germany, despite the threat to cut off intelligence and weapons supplies to Kyiv, is merely hoping Washington will remain a reliable partner.
04:55 AM Trump Announces a Ceasefire While Russian Bombs Keep Falling on Ukrainian Power Plants
Ukraine is still waiting for details of the energy ceasefire announced by Donald Trump. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday that Kyiv supported such an agreement, but Russia would have to abide by it as well. While Washington talks about a pause in the fighting, Moscow continues its attacks on Ukraine's energy supply. According to Zelenskyy, there were more than 200 attacks on power generation facilities and 17 attacks on oil and gas facilities over the past week alone. On Sunday evening, another strike hit a combined heat and power plant in Kharkiv, while Russian drones and aerial bombs were being used. Zelenskyy discussed Trump's announcement with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb. Ukraine was prepared to stop its attacks on Russian energy facilities as soon as Russia stopped targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure. There had been no response from Moscow to Trump's announcement at the time.

09:18 PM Six U.S. Senators Push Back Against Trump's Diesel Deal With Putin, Accusing Him of Potentially Breaking the Law
Four Republican and 2 Democratic senators are demanding that Donald Trump immediately reverse his controversial diesel deal with Vladimir Putin. Trump announced that Russia would initially supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by another 500,000 tons in November and millions more tons after that. The senators accuse the administration of bypassing Congress and failing to provide the explanation required by law. Back in 2022, Congress banned energy imports from Russia to prevent Moscow from using that money to finance its war of aggression against Ukraine. Republican Senator Thom Tillis said there are good reasons to believe Trump would be breaking the law if he goes through with the deal. The signatories include Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, John Curtis, Jeanne Shaheen, and Richard Blumenthal. While Russia continues killing Ukrainian civilians, Trump wants to buy Russian diesel, supposedly to bring down high fuel prices in the United States. The 6 senators explicitly warn against handing Putin a financial lifeline.
10:12 AM Trump will Fetterman abwerben: Die Angst um die Senatsmehrheit treibt die Republikaner zu den Demokraten
Just weeks before the midterm elections, Donald Trump is trying to convince Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania to switch parties. “I’d love to see him as a Republican,” Trump said Saturday. The president knows what's at stake: His party could lose its majority in the Senate, and Democrats need to pick up four additional seats to take control. Fetterman has increasingly distanced himself from his party over his positions on immigration and Israel, and most recently attacked Democrats at a Republican convention over alleged extremism and socialism. Yet the very man Trump now wants to bring into his party said back in May that he'd be a terrible Republican who would still vote overwhelmingly with Democrats. As Trump fights for every Senate seat, he's now trying to win over a Democratic senator with public praise. So far, Fetterman has not responded to Trump's latest appeal.
03:22 AM Democrats Take the Fight Into Trump's Strongholds: The Battle for Congress Reaches Deep Into Republican Territory
Democrats are deliberately expanding their campaigns ahead of the November 3 midterm elections into districts that Donald Trump won by significant margins in 2024. Their target list now includes 66 Republican-held seats, including 14 newly added districts. The strategy is designed to force Republicans to spend money and deploy campaign staff even in places where they previously felt safe. Tennessee stands out in particular: That's where 31-year-old Democrat Justin Pearson is running in a district Republicans redrew in their own favor, one Trump won by more than 21 percentage points. Pearson nevertheless reports growing support, including among independent and Republican voters struggling with the high cost of living. In Nevada, a Republican organization has already spent nearly $750,000 on campaign advertising for a candidate in one of the newly targeted districts. Republicans mock the strategy as costly overconfidence, while election analysts question whether Democrats can raise enough money to fund so many additional campaigns. To take control of the House of Representatives, Democrats need a net gain of 4 seats, but only around 50 of the 435 congressional districts are considered genuinely competitive.

10:45 PM "Ragebait" Is Germany's Youth Word of the Year 2026: Anger Wins
