08:05 PM Trump's Attempt to Block an Election Defeat in Alaska Fails in Federal Court
A federal court in Alaska dismissed a lawsuit by the Trump administration on Sunday, November 1, 2026, aimed at blocking certification of the Senate election results. U.S. District Judge Sharon Gleason in Anchorage rejected the attempt to legally block a possible defeat for Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. The case centers on another candidate also named Dan Sullivan, who could take votes away from the Republican incumbent. The Justice Department wanted to prevent Alaska from certifying a victory for Democrat Mary Peltola if the shared name could have affected the outcome. The ruling comes just 2 days before the November 3 congressional elections. The race between Sullivan and Peltola could help determine whether Republicans keep control of the Senate. Under the U.S. Constitution, elections are primarily administered by the states, while Trump has been pushing for greater influence over how they run their elections. With the lawsuit dismissed, another attempt by his administration to interfere with the certification of a possible Democratic victory has failed, at least for now.
05:55 AM Black Sea Ceasefire: Washington Negotiates Over Grain Shipments While Russia Continues Attacking Ukraine
Following the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Atlanta, international interest is growing in a limited ceasefire in the Black Sea. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on October 31 that Washington is reviewing proposals from Turkey and India aimed at protecting grain shipments and energy deliveries from further attacks. Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand is also calling for an end to Russian attacks on Ukraine's power grid ahead of the approaching winter. She personally confronted Sergey Lavrov over the abduction of Ukrainian children and Russian attacks on civilian ships. While India and Egypt fear for the safety of their ships and crews, Moscow has so far shown no willingness to agree to such a deal. The G20 meeting ended without a joint final statement, and Rubio acknowledged that a comprehensive peace agreement is nowhere in sight right now. At the same time, he spoke with Lavrov about possible meetings between Trump and Putin in November or December and did not rule out inviting Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to the G20 summit in Miami.

09:03 PM Trump's Immigration Agents Spread Fear Ahead of the Election: American Citizens in California Are Afraid to Go to the Polls
Just days before the congressional midterm elections, ICE agents are sweeping through California's Central Valley and arresting hundreds of people. According to a U.S. government official, the stepped-up operation was ordered by the White House. In Bakersfield, daily arrests jumped from about 1 to nearly 10 in a short period of time. In the fiercely contested congressional district, even American citizens are afraid that casting their ballots could put family members without legal immigration status at risk. Democrat Randy Villegas accuses the administration of deliberately trying to intimidate voters. The United Farm Workers union reports that many of the arrested farmworkers have no criminal records whatsoever. Among those detained is a single mother whose children have already lost their father. Her 11-year-old son broke down in tears when he learned she had been arrested. His 3-year-old sister now asks every time the phone rings whether it's finally her mother calling.
03:30 AM Japan Demands Immediate Release of Journalist Detained in Russia
Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi demanded the immediate release of a Japanese citizen detained in Russia during a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Atlanta on October 30, 2026. The detainee is a journalist who was arrested by Russian authorities in mid-October on Sakhalin Island on suspicion of alleged espionage. The rare meeting on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers' summit came amid seriously deteriorating relations between the two countries. Motegi also called on Russia to take concrete steps toward a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. Moscow, meanwhile, insisted that restoring full diplomatic relations would require Japan to abandon what Russia calls its unfriendly policies. Tokyo has joined Western sanctions against Russia but continues to import Russian liquefied natural gas. The two countries are also locked in a decades-long territorial dispute over the Kuril Islands. As a result, Japan and Russia have still never signed a formal peace treaty officially ending World War II. Earlier, European foreign ministers had forced the cancellation of the traditional G20 group photo after objecting to Lavrov's presence.
