Germany restructures - factories shift from cars to weapons!

Germany is transforming its industry, not gradually, but under pressure. Month after month, around 15,000 jobs in manufacturing are disappearing, especially in the auto industry, which for decades was the backbone of the economy. Profits are collapsing, companies like Volkswagen and Mercedes are losing massive earnings, while tens of thousands of jobs are being cut or planned for reduction. Demand is weakening, competition from China is growing, and the old model no longer holds. Berlin is not responding by trying to preserve the previous state. Instead, factories, skilled workers and capital are being deliberately redirected into defense production. What used to be engines, transmissions and vehicle parts is now being converted into drone technology, systems for military vehicles and components for aviation. Companies like Schaeffler or Deutz are building their own divisions directly focused on military production. The goal is to generate a significant share of revenue from this sector within a few years.

The state is actively driving this development. New rules make access to financing easier, large contracts secure demand, and overall nearly one trillion euros are available for defense. At the same time, existing production sites are being converted to deliver faster. A platform connects traditional industrial companies with the defense sector so existing structures can be used instead of building new ones. The shift is also a response to the geopolitical situation. Europe wants to become more independent, demand for weapons and military technology is rising, and Germany is positioning itself as a central producer. Even major names from the auto industry are exploring new partnerships, for example in components for air defense systems. At the same time, additional shifts are running in factories to produce ammunition and equipment.

For some companies, this is already working. Deutz has developed new business areas and is increasing revenue, while others are still in the middle of restructuring. The key factor is speed. While traditional defense firms need years to ramp up production, industrial companies from the automotive sector bring experience in rapid scaling. This is shifting the balance of power within the industry.

Germany is not just restructuring its industry, but also its economic role. The era in which cars set the tone is coming to an end. In its place comes a sector that is growing because the world has become more unstable. Whether this will hold in the long term remains to be seen, but the course has been set and is already being implemented.

Budget hearing with a side plot - RFK Jr. searches for his own plan

RFK Jr.: "We didn’t cut that money."

Dean Democrat: “Did you read your budget proposal?”

RFK Jr.: “I thought you were talking about something else.”

Dean Democrat: “You have to show up here and know what your budget request was.”

There are moments in political life that need no explanation because they explain themselves, slowly, on camera, with the dignity of a man realizing he has walked into the wrong room. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sits in Congress, where the numbers live and responsibility resides, and declares with the conviction of someone who has never doubted that nothing has been cut. A sentence like a foundation. Unfortunately without a house on top.

Then the question. Not asked like an accusation, not thrown like a charge, but placed like a glass of water on an empty table. Did you read your own budget proposal. RFK Jr. hears it and does what great men do in small moments - he changes the subject before the previous one has even finished. He says he thought it was about something else. In a hearing about the budget. About his budget. It is like a chef looking at a menu and explaining he thought the conversation was about literature.

The room stays quiet because rooms like this have learned to show nothing. But the scene carries itself, with the quiet elegance of a man defending a document that in the decisive moment he has not read, possibly not written - all possibilities unsettling in their own way. RFK Jr. possesses his budget and apparently does not.

Bulgaria shifts course - Radev wins, old parties lose control

Rumen Radev

Bulgaria has voted, and the result can no longer be downplayed. After years of stagnation, corruption allegations and constantly changing governments, voters made a clear decision on Sunday. The new coalition around former president Rumen Radev is far ahead and could even reach a majority in parliament. The official numbers are not yet final, but one thing is already clear: such a result has not been seen in a long time.

The party of former prime minister Boyko Borissov, which shaped the country for years, has fallen sharply and is now only in second place. This means it loses the direct grip on power it held for more than a decade. The alliance that carried the protests in December has also gained ground and is in double digits. The balance of power is visibly shifting. Voter turnout is around fifty percent, significantly higher than before. After eight elections in five years, this is a clear signal. Many returned to the polls because they are no longer willing to accept the previous situation. In Sofia, people once again stood in long lines outside polling stations.

Radev built his success on a clear promise: an end to corruption and an end to the influence of old networks. He appeals to a broad audience, from older voters to business-oriented groups in cities. At the same time, it remains unclear what his policy will look like in detail if he actually forms a government.

What is certain: Bulgaria’s political system is facing a turning point. Old majorities are broken, new alliances must first take shape. A government may be easier to form than before, but it will only be stable if expectations are met. The pressure is high, and the time for excuses is over.

Trump speaks of talks - Iran doubts, threats remain

The Serena Hotel in Islamabad, where the first talks took place, has been cleared. The Red Zone has been expanded by one mile - currently, possible talks are expected this week starting today. That they will take place we cannot confirm, that they will not take place we cannot confirm either. At the same time, around 10,000 soldiers and security forces are currently in Islamabad.

Washington says talks are ongoing, Tehran pushes back. While Vice President JD Vance is expected to travel to Pakistan to initiate a new round, it is still unclear whether Iran will even participate. As recently as Sunday, Tehran said U.S. demands were excessive and there were no clear prospects for productive discussions. This leaves open whether a meeting will happen at all, even as Islamabad prepares for a new round. The ceasefire brokered by Pakistan expires in a few days. At exactly this stage, the tone is hardening. Trump publicly threatens airstrikes on infrastructure if Iran does not comply. Power plants and bridges are explicitly named as potential targets. At the same time, Washington accuses Tehran of already violating the ceasefire by firing on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

At the same time, the U.S. is increasing pressure at sea. The blockade of Iranian ports remains in place, ships are being stopped, one was even forcibly seized in the Gulf of Oman. More than twenty ships linked to Iran have already been turned back. Meanwhile, the military is attempting to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz to secure trade routes. Substantively, both sides remain far apart. The United States demands that Iran halt uranium enrichment for many years, surrender stockpiles and fully open passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Long term, the issue also includes missile programs and support for allied groups in the region. Iran presents its own conditions, including lifting all sanctions and imposing a much shorter limitation on its program.

Within Iran, the line is not unified. While parts of the government remain open to talks, forces linked to the Revolutionary Guards are pushing for more pressure in potential negotiations. The renewed restrictions on shipping in the strait are part of that strategy.

The immediate goal of both sides is not a comprehensive treaty, but a framework that could enable future agreements. Yet even that currently lacks the conditions. Differences are too large, signals too contradictory in recent days. The result is a situation in which talks are discussed but no one can say whether they will actually take place. Diplomacy has not stopped, but it is not moving forward either. And with every incident at sea, the risk grows that it will be overtaken entirely.

Conflict inside the Pentagon escalates - dismissals, mistrust, open fronts

War Secretary and former Fox host Pete Hegseth

Inside the Pentagon, a conflict is unfolding that is no longer internal. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Army Secretary Dan Driscoll have been at odds for months, and what began as tension is now openly visible. The rupture became especially clear when Driscoll praised dismissed Chief of Staff General Randy George before lawmakers - the very man Hegseth removed at the beginning of April without warning while Driscoll was on vacation.

The handling of that decision has drawn internal criticism. George was considered an experienced officer, his dismissal came suddenly and without clear explanation. The phone call informing him lasted less than a minute. For many in the military, this signals that decisions at the top are becoming increasingly personal. Driscoll responded unusually directly, meeting George in person and publicly backing him. The tensions go back further. From the start of their cooperation, conflicts arose over authority and influence. Hegseth made it clear early on that he intended to retain control. Driscoll, in turn, is seen as closely connected to Vice President JD Vance and thus has backing in the White House. That has further strained the relationship.

Personnel decisions have also caused unrest internally. Several senior officers have been removed or sidelined. In one case, names were to be removed from a promotion list, including women and Black officers. Driscoll resisted repeatedly. The dispute escalated into long, heated discussions. The conflict comes at a time when the military is heavily engaged worldwide. For that reason, the removal of experienced leadership is being viewed critically. Outside the Pentagon as well, skepticism is growing about whether this leadership style can hold in a tense situation.

Officially, Washington says everything is functioning. In practice, a different picture emerges. A secretary who pushes decisions through, an army chief who refuses to yield, and a leadership increasingly working against itself. The result is a power struggle that can no longer be ignored, unfolding exactly where stability is most needed.

Drones strike Tuapse - oil terminal in flames

Ukraine has hit the Russian Black Sea port of Tuapse with a large scale drone attack. The target was facilities at an oil terminal, multiple storage tanks were hit. Shortly after impact, fires broke out and spread quickly, visible from a great distance. Tuapse is one of the most important hubs for Russian oil exports. A strike at this location has effects far beyond the local level, directly hitting the logistics behind supply chains. That appears to be the intention.

The attacks show that Ukraine continues to use its range and is deliberately targeting infrastructure that is economically relevant to Russia. At the same time, this increases the risk that such strikes will expand and other ports will become targets. Russian authorities report fires and damage but are withholding details. It remains unclear how severely the facilities are affected and how long operations will be restricted. The attack is part of a series of strikes on energy infrastructure. It hits a point where economy, supply and military operations converge.

Trump reads the Bible in the Oval Office - and stumbles over his own sentence

On Tuesday, Donald Trump plans to read from the Bible in the Oval Office. A president at his desk, the camera running, the text prepared. It is an image meant to have impact, clearly staged and aimed at an audience meant to recognize itself in it. But even beforehand, one sentence draws attention, impossible to ignore. “I love you Christians, I am not a Christian, I love you.” A statement that is not one, and at the same time says everything it intends to say. Show closeness without committing.

It fits a pattern visible for years. Religion is referenced, emphasized, used, but never truly carried. The moment in the Oval Office follows exactly this pattern. The message is clear, even if the sentence is not. For his supporters, that may be enough. For others, it leaves an impression that does not resolve. A president reading from the Bible while at the same time explaining he does not belong to it. It is hard to fit more contradiction into a single sentence.

Rat poison in baby food - recall in several countries, tampering suspected

Rat poison has been discovered in baby food produced by HiPP. The trail leads from Germany to Austria, where a manipulated 190 gram jar labeled “carrots with potatoes” was secured. The packaging showed clear irregularities: damaged lid, unusual smell, no click when opening. A red sticker was found on the bottom. Authorities are certain the product was tampered with. Laboratory analyses confirm the presence of a toxic substance. Similar cases have been reported in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In Austria, thousands of products have been removed from supermarkets, especially from Spar stores. Customers are being refunded, even without a receipt.

Police strongly warn against consumption. Affected jars should not be opened. Anyone who finds a suspicious product should store it separately and avoid direct contact. Children must not come into contact with it under any circumstances. It is still unclear who is behind the tampering. The affected products come from a regular production line, and there is no indication of a manufacturing defect. The focus is therefore on deliberate interference after distribution.

Rattengift in Babynahrung.

Kinderleben aufs Spiel setzen.

Dann steckt was Anderes als Geld dahinter.

Verbindungen hin oder her.

Trump will schnelle Erfolge.

Alles andere kommt erst danach.
