02:45 PM Espionage for Moscow: Ukrainian Suspected of Spying on Germany's Defense Industry and NATO Defenses

A Ukrainian citizen is being held in pretrial detention in Germany on suspicion of spying for Russia. The man, identified by investigators as Vadym Y., allegedly gathered information about German weapons production and military personnel. According to federal prosecutors, his targets also included military facilities involved in securing NATO's eastern flank. The suspect is believed to have been in contact with a Russian intelligence service through an intermediary since at least July 2025. In addition to publicly available information, he allegedly sought specific details from representatives of the European defense industry. Federal Criminal Police officers arrested him in Brandenburg, and a court ordered him held in pretrial detention on Friday. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz warned that Germany should expect more espionage cases of this kind

03:22 PM Trump’s Gerrymandering Gamble Backfires: Republicans Lose Ground Despite Districts Drawn in Their Favor

Donald Trump wanted to lock in Republican control of Congress by redrawing congressional districts to give his party an advantage. But his plunging popularity is threatening to blow up the entire plan. Of the 16 districts where Republicans had gained an edge, 9 could now flip to Democrats or are simply too close to call. Support among Latino voters is collapsing, especially in Texas and Florida. Of the 9 Democratic-held seats Republicans originally targeted, only one is now considered a sure Republican pickup. Even supposedly safe Republican strongholds are suddenly in play, forcing GOP-aligned groups to pour millions into races they thought were already in the bag. Democrats only need to flip 4 seats to take control of the House of Representatives on November 3. Trump's attempt to engineer a Republican majority by literally redrawing the political map could end up backfiring spectacularly, thanks to his own unpopularity.

08:42 AM Millions of Exploit Attempts After Major PHP Security Flaws Exposed: Websites Worldwide Come Under Attack

Within hours of the disclosure of serious security flaws in the widely used PHP programming language, Cloudflare recorded millions of attempts to exploit them. Thousands of attempts had already been detected before the announcement, and the numbers skyrocketed afterward. Government websites in Europe and other parts of the world had to be taken offline temporarily. Japanese banking giant Mitsubishi UFJ and Japan's Finance Ministry also temporarily suspended online services as a precaution. The vulnerabilities had been present for years before being discovered with the help of artificial intelligence. PHP developers released urgent security updates on Wednesday and urged website operators to update their systems immediately.

02:45 AM Baby Food Under Scrutiny: India Demands Evidence From Nestlé, Abbott, and Zydus

India's food safety regulator is taking action against Nestlé, Abbott, and Zydus Wellness over questionable advertising claims involving infant formula and children's products. Nestlé must provide scientific evidence that its Lactogen Pro 1 and NAN Excella Pro Stage 1 products actually support digestion and the immune system. Zydus must explain why its Complan children's drink supposedly promotes twice as fast growth. Abbott also came under scrutiny over a promotional video for infant formula but denies any involvement in its content. Nestlé says it has already responded in detail to earlier complaints. At the same time, India is planning to ban certain added sugars in food for infants up to 6 months old. Authorities are stepping up pressure on a food industry worth more than $100 billion, whose health claims are increasingly being examined to determine whether they actually hold up scientifically.
