05:15 AM Oregon: 16-Year-Old Shoots His Way Through Locked School Doors, Kills 3 Children and a Teacher, Armed Community Member Shoots and Kills Attacker

At 12:59 p.m., an emergency call comes in to police in Bend, Oregon. A person reports that someone has fired multiple shots at their vehicle with a long gun. Minutes later, the gunman reaches Silver Rail Elementary School. The doors are locked. The 16-year-old shoots through them and enters the building, where around 450 children attend classes. Police arrive at 1:02 p.m. Shortly afterward, the attacker is shot and killed by an armed community member who had seen him entering the school and followed him inside. For 3 children, ages 5, 8, and 11, and a teacher, help comes too late. A 7-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher are rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Governor Tina Kotek thanks the community member for intervening. Police Chief Mike Krantz says his officers spent an entire day in August training for exactly this kind of attack. At American elementary schools, preparing for armed attackers has long since become part of everyday life. Children learn to read while adults have to practice how to protect them from someone carrying a rifle. After Columbine and Sandy Hook, America is once again confronting the consequences of its gun violence. 3 children will never come home again.

08:25 PM Germany Pushes Back Against Trump's Russia Policy: Moscow Is Being Welcomed Back to the Table of Power

German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil is warning against American efforts to treat Russia like an ordinary member of the G20 again. At the meeting in Bangkok, he said Germany and its European partners would not accept such a return. Washington, meanwhile, is defending Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov's participation and is even considering easing sanctions on vessels belonging to Russia's shadow fleet. Britain is calling for tougher sanctions, while German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is rejecting any transfer of frozen Russian state assets to U.S. control. Trump has also temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian diesel fuel. Klingbeil explicitly warned against negotiations conducted over the heads of the Ukrainian people. The EU has already pledged €45 billion to Ukraine for 2027 but is looking for additional financial backers because the country's needs will be considerably higher. Britain is also providing £17 million to repair the damaged Chornobyl nuclear power plant.

Zelenskyy: "We can't afford to show weakness. Otherwise, we can't survive … That's why it's painful when Trump chooses to side with Russia. This is not the right side of history."

Without any warning, SpaceX restricted the use of military Starlink connections in Ukraine, disrupting Ukrainian attack and defense drones. According to Ukrainian military officials, the 160 km/h (99 mph) speed limit forced several missions to be aborted. Elon Musk said the U.S. government, and ultimately Trump, decides on such restrictions. At the same time, Kyiv reported that it had gone 2 days without receiving Western advance warnings of Russian missile attacks. Russia bombed power plants and residential buildings, damaged 30 energy facilities according to Zelenskyy, and left around 600,000 people without electricity. Two people were killed and 21 injured in Kyiv, while another 6 people were killed in Lutsk. As Trump pressures Ukraine to stop attacking Russian oil refineries, Zelenskyy accuses Moscow of openly disregarding the United States and warns that the Starlink restrictions will cost numerous lives.
