01:10 PM BMW Cuts 8,000 Jobs as Profits Plunge: German Automaker Slashes Its Annual Forecast for the Second Time

BMW is deep in crisis and has once again dramatically lowered its profit expectations for 2026. Its operating profit margin in the automotive business is now expected to come in between minus 0.5% and plus 0.5%, a far cry from its long-term target of 8% to 10%. Back in July, the Munich-based automaker launched a plan to cut 8,000 jobs in Germany, and now management positions are set to be eliminated even faster. The downturn in China has hit particularly hard, with BMW selling 22% fewer vehicles there during the first 9 months of the year. On top of that, the company is dealing with U.S. tariffs and high restructuring costs. In the third quarter, its operating margin fell from 5.2% to 3.4%, while pretax earnings came in at €2.1 billion. Despite the bleak outlook, BMW shares rose 2.3% as investors bet on the cost-cutting measures and new electric vehicles like the iX3.

05:15 AM Thousands Protest in Prague: Babiš Government Wants to Put Public Broadcasters Under Its Financial Control

Thousands of people took to the streets in Prague and other Czech cities on Tuesday to protest Prime Minister Andrej Babiš's media policies. Employees at the country's public television and radio broadcasters went on a one-day strike, disrupting news broadcasts. The government wants to scrap the monthly broadcasting fee of 205 Czech crowns and instead fund the broadcasters directly through the state budget. At the same time, it plans to slash their funding by 15 percent, effectively pushing television funding back to 2008 levels and radio funding back to 2005. Critics warn that this could give the government direct influence over what gets reported. The bill was unexpectedly introduced in late October and pushed through an initial vote after an overnight parliamentary session. Opposition politicians are already drawing comparisons to Hungary under Viktor Orbán. Babiš denies any intention of bringing the media under political control, claiming he's simply trying to ease the financial burden on ordinary people. Protesters marched to Prague's Wenceslas Square, demanding that the government scrap its plans and put legal protections in place to safeguard journalistic independence.

07:00 PM Trump's Intelligence Agencies Are at War With Each Other: Washington Is Missing Critical Intelligence Reports Just as Another War With Iran Looms

Under Donald Trump, cooperation among America's intelligence agencies has been badly damaged. According to 8 current and former government officials, intelligence on Iran and other international threats has been delayed and, in some cases, withheld entirely. In 2025, the CIA stopped jointly producing certain intelligence assessments with the National Intelligence Council, which is supposed to bring together the findings of America's 18 intelligence agencies. Particularly alarming: According to 5 government officials, no such assessments of the Iran war have been produced since then, even as Washington considers launching new attacks after the congressional elections. Under Tulsi Gabbard, members of Congress temporarily stopped receiving intelligence reports following the U.S. military intervention in Iran in June 2025 and the capture of Nicolás Maduro in January 2026. At the same time, former intelligence officials report that analysts have been holding back critical assessments out of fear of political consequences. The power struggle between the CIA and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence escalated so badly that Trump's chief of staff, Susie Wiles, had to step in several times; for a time, the FBI also refused to share certain information with the National Counterterrorism Center. The new director of national intelligence, Jay Clayton, has since resumed briefing Congress on election threats, while the CIA insists it continues to participate in joint assessments. Former intelligence officials warn of a dangerous fragmentation of intelligence that could bring back the very weaknesses the United States sought to overcome when it reorganized its intelligence agencies after the September 11, 2001, attacks.

03:40 AM Trump's Approval Rating Nears Rock Bottom Ahead of Midterms: Just 32% Approve, Democrats Hold a Clear Lead

Just one day before the U.S. midterm elections, Donald Trump's approval rating stands at just 32%, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll, barely above his previous record low of 31%. When asked which party they would prefer to control Congress, 46% of voters chose Democrats, compared with 38% who favored Republicans. That puts Democrats 8 percentage points ahead, down from an 11-point lead the previous week. Among registered independent voters, 50% explicitly see their vote as a vote against Trump, while just 13% view it as a show of support for the president. Rising living costs are weighing especially heavily on voters, with 78% saying the issue is very important or the single most important factor in deciding how they'll vote. On economic policy, 43% trust Democrats more, compared with 32% who favor Republicans. Democrats also lead in voter enthusiasm: 49% of their supporters are highly motivated to vote, compared with just 33% of Republicans. While Republicans are fighting to hold on to their majorities in both chambers, Democrats are seen as having their better shot at taking control of the House of Representatives, where all 435 seats are up for grabs, while winning the Senate will be more difficult. The poll surveyed 1,765 adults online and has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.

04:00 PM Cyberattack Hits Supermarkets Across Europe: Refrigeration Systems Cranked Up to 50°C, Tons of Food Destroyed

A large-scale cyberattack hit numerous supermarkets across Europe on Monday, with refrigeration systems in some locations heated to as much as 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit). Stores in Sweden, Belgium, Luxembourg, Ireland, and Estonia were affected, including locations operated by ICA, Coop, Carrefour, Delhaize, and Spar. In Stockholm, a store manager reported that all frozen goods had to be thrown away after hackers tampered with the temperature controls overnight. In Belgium, a butcher shop chain lost around €15,000 worth of meat. Carrefour alone reported 15 affected stores, while 13 SuperValu locations in Ireland had to pull refrigerated products from sale. Hundreds of supermarkets in France had already been targeted in similar attacks in October, some of which also caused fires. With no ransom demands reported, security experts suspect deliberate sabotage, while Swedish authorities are warning about poorly protected control systems. Who is behind the attacks, and whether they are connected, remains unknown.

05:05 AM Trump Promises Canada a New Trade Deal and Wants to Revive the Controversial Keystone Pipeline

Donald Trump announced a possible new trade deal with Canada during an appearance in Dubuque, Iowa, on November 1, 2026. Following a conversation with Prime Minister Mark Carney the day before, Trump said they already had the basic outline of a deal that would especially benefit American farmers. Carney confirmed that the talks had been constructive and said both governments would continue negotiations over the coming weeks. Trump also announced that Canada would build the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline and pay for it itself. The project, which was halted under Joe Biden in 2021, was supposed to transport 830,000 barrels of oil a day from Alberta toward American refineries. How the original pipeline could be revived remains unclear. Canadian company South Bow is now working with American company Bridger Pipeline on an alternative project called Prairie Connector, with a planned capacity of 550,000 barrels a day. A decision on whether to build it isn't expected until 2027, while the ongoing tariff dispute between Washington and Ottawa continues to strain relations.
