"MIGA!!!" - How Trump Embarrasses His Own Government and Destroys a Fellow Republican

Washington - It was a weekend that will be remembered - as an example of a government contradicting itself, and of a president who prefers to destroy rather than unite. While foreign policy balancing acts around Iran escalated militarily, Donald Trump simultaneously shattered the already fragile communication strategy of his own cabinet - and publicly attacked a fellow party member in a way that was unusual even by his standards. First came the verbal detonation with global impact: On Truth Social Sunday evening, Trump wrote that while it might not be politically correct to speak of regime change in Iran, "but if the current Iranian regime is not able to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN - then why not a regime change??? MIGA!!!" - a single sentence that was enough to demolish the foundation of his administration's previous defense line. Just hours earlier, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had all emphasized in interviews, briefings, and background talks that the U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities were a precise, limited operation - not an invasion, not "nation building," not an attempt to topple the regime. Their words were meant to reassure international partners and calm domestic critics. But Trump, as so often standing alone, let that line implode - using the acronym "MIGA," a provocative reinterpretation of his famous campaign slogan in the context of Iran: "Make Iran Great Again."

For his cabinet members, the outburst became a diplomatic disaster. Vance, who had positioned himself as a foreign policy skeptic during the 2024 campaign, appeared blindsided. Rubio, built up as the voice of foreign policy reason, was forced to publicly argue against the words of his own president. And Hegseth, a hardliner often viewed as unconditionally loyal, remained conspicuously silent. The Trump administration, in that moment, became clearly not a collective project - but a presidential ego on overdrive. But that wasn’t the end of it. Just hours later, Trump unleashed his full rhetorical force internally - against Thomas Massie, Republican congressman from Kentucky, who had dared to speak out against the administration's Iran strategy. In a ruthless Truth Social post, Trump called him a "lightweight," "weak," a "pathetic LOSER," and compared him to a disease: "MAGA should drop this pathetic LOSER, Tom Massie, like the plague!" Massie had previously warned that the strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites could ultimately lead to more instability rather than security. Apparently enough for Trump to publicly annihilate him. He accused Massie of failing to appreciate the U.S. military’s achievements, of sabotaging the operation, of echoing Tehran’s rhetoric - and announced that he would personally campaign against him in the Kentucky Republican primary: "GET THIS ‘BUM’ OUT OF OFFICE, ASAP!!!"

It wasn’t just an act of revenge - it was a message: In Trump’s world, anyone who doesn’t function unconditionally will be excommunicated - regardless of party affiliation or decades of loyalty. Loyalty is no longer a virtue, but a mandate for self-erasure. These days, the Trump administration presents itself in a state of self-inflicted disunity - dangerously erratic abroad, unhinged at home. While the world watches for a possible escalation with Iran, the White House struggles to project a unified message - and fails, because its loudest voice answers only to itself. Three exclamation marks are all it takes - and the cabinet disappears into the shadows.

Alle Autokraten erwarten unabdingbaren Gehorsam. Wehe wenn nicht. Das macht einen Autokraten so gefährlich.
