It is a Monday when the world looks to Washington - and yet hardly anyone seriously doubts that this summit rests on shaky ground. At the White House today, Europe’s top leaders are gathering to stand alongside Volodymyr Zelenskyy and send a signal of unity against Moscow: Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Friedrich Merz, Giorgia Meloni, Alexander Stubb, Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. They all come to remind Donald Trump that Ukraine is fighting not only for its own survival but also for the security of the entire continent. But the president who is receiving them has sounded since his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska like a man who already stands on the other side.
Trump has adopted Putin’s vocabulary. A ceasefire is useless, he suddenly declares, only a “lasting peace” can end the war - exactly as Moscow has demanded for years. Crimea is lost, NATO enlargement for Ukraine is ruled out, and the Donbas must be negotiable: Trump now repeats the Kremlin’s core demands as if they were his own ideas. That Russia, at the very same time, continues to bombard cities like Kharkiv, Sumy, Odesa and Zaporizhzhia with rockets and drones, that a toddler, a teenager and entire families die under the rubble - none of that plays any role in Trump’s new language. Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the attacks “demonstrative and cynical,” a clear signal that the Kremlin answers every offer of talks with violence.
While Europe appeals to shared responsibility, Trump demonstrates that other priorities are driving him. In the morning he announced on his platform that even before the talks with Zelenskyy he would present an executive order to bring “HONESTY to the 2026 Midterm Elections.” Trump promised to abolish mail-in voting and voting machines, boasting that together with the Republicans he would “fight like hell” to wipe out alleged irregularities. Even in conversation with Putin, he later recounted, he had talked about “the dishonesty of mail-in voting” - a bizarre indication that the president places his domestic obsessions above global security.
Today’s White House schedule reads like a protocol full of symbolic gestures:
12 p.m. Eastern Time: arrival of the European heads of state and government.
1 p.m.: Trump receives Zelenskyy for a bilateral meeting.
2:15 p.m.: official reception of the European leaders.
3 p.m.: beginning of the joint consultations.
On the table lie the decisive questions: security guarantees modeled after NATO, the future of the Donbas, the fate of Crimea. Europe appears in Washington united, France’s President Macron called Ukraine an “outpost of our collective defense,” and warned that weakness today would prepare the conflicts of tomorrow. But the atmosphere is poisoned: the US president openly signals that he is prepared to accept Putin’s conditions - and not in spite of, but because of his supposed search for peace. This summit could become a turning point, but not because it ends the war. Rather, because it demonstrates how far the political axis of the West has already shifted. The doubts that an agreement will be reached here are therefore not only justified - they are the bitter reality. In Washington today, the decision is not whether Ukraine will be secured, but whether Donald Trump will show the world that the Kremlin has long since found a partner in him.

Es ist genau so eine Farce, wie das Treffen in Alaska.
Putin hat Trump gesagt,was er erwartet und Trump kuscht.
Warum? Darüber kann man spekulieren.
Irgendein Vorteil springt dabei raus.
Im Vorfeld die Rückgabe der Krim und Donbas, sowie eine Nato-Mitgliedschaft auszuschließen, ist ungefähr so, wie Jemand mit dem Baseballschläger zu verprügeln und dann zu sagen, er muss aufpassen, sonst stolpert er.
Es wird ein Debakel.
Denn Trump behauptet groß und mit Inbrunst „Selensky kann den Krieg sofort beenden“
Falsch! Putin ist der Aggressor.
Er hätte den Krieg zu jedem Zeitpunkt beenden können.
Nur das ist nicht der Plan.
Über Frieden zu sprechen, wenn noch Bomben fallen ist absurd.
Hätte sich Jemand mit Frankreichs Regierung getroffen um über Frieden zu sprechen, während Hitlers Bomben vielen?
Wohl kaum.
Friedensgespräche können überhaupt erst ernsthaft geführt werden, wenn es eine echte Waffenruhe gibt.
Und die gibt es nicht.
Damit ist jegliche Diskussion für mich vom Tisch.
Aber sicher wird die Delegation von guten Gesprächen und Fortschritten sprechen, während sie wie geprügelte Hunde die USA verlassen.
Erwarten darf man nichts Positives.
Befürchten aber das Schlimmste.
Und in der Innenpolitik.
Wie sollen denn alle US-Bürger außerhalb der USA wählen ohne Briefwahl?
Ach ja, MAGA kommt ja meist nicht mal über ihre Ortsgrenze geschweige denn Staatsgrenze hinaus.
Trump und Konsorten müssen wirklich Angst vir den Midterms haben, dass sie alles versuchen um die Wahlen zu ihren Gunsten zu drehen.
Wobei, obliegt es nicht den einzelnen Bundesstaaten, wie eine Eahl gehandhabt wird?
Soviel zu mehr Eigenständigkeit der Bundesstasten und weniger Einmischung der Bundesregierung.
Ihr werden sicher an Euuch halten müssen um nicht ständig zu 🤮

Und Tipps für die nächste Wahl hat er sich auch gleich abgeholt, wobei es nicht mal darum geht, ob ihm die Abschaffung der Briefwahl hilft, sondern um eine Änderung als solches. Damit er danach seine durch Wahlfälschung errungenen 80% „erklären“ kann.
Die Bewertung richtet sich gegen Trump. Dein Artikel ist sehr gut.
