Leo pushes back - and hits Trump where he does not expect it!

Donald Trump had grown used to conflicts with the Vatican. Back then it was Pope Francis who openly attacked him and was often criticized for it by conservative Catholics in the United States. This time the situation is different. Pope Leo XIV comes from the United States. He knows the political system, the language, the mechanisms. And that changes the dynamic. What once appeared as distance between Rome and Washington is now a direct line - and with it a direct conflict. When Trump publicly attacks Leo, he does not respond loudly, but in a controlled manner. No grand gestures, no escalation. It is precisely this calm that makes the criticism effective. It is hard to dismiss because it does not feel like a political strike, but like a deliberate decision.

The decisive difference lies in the support. While Francis lost many conservative Catholics, Leo is winning them back. In parishes, in conversations after mass, even among Trump voters, resistance to the president’s attacks is growing. People who voted for him multiple times are distancing themselves. This has consequences. For the first time in years, a crack is forming exactly where Trump long stood secure. Not among his opponents, but within his own circle.

Leo deliberately avoids open lines of conflict. He speaks about war, about responsibility, about technological issues such as artificial intelligence, without allowing himself to be pulled into partisan camps. That makes him difficult to target with a strategy that depends on clearly defined enemies. Trump nevertheless treats him as a political opponent. That becomes the problem. Because Leo does not act as a politician. He refuses that framework. Even within the administration, the first fractures are appearing. Voices that support Trump criticize his tone toward the Pope. Others, like JD Vance, push back and argue that the Pope should limit himself to church matters. But the reality has shifted. A Pope from America, who reaches conservative believers and at the same time sets political boundaries, cannot be easily categorized.

Talks continue - but something else is decided on the water

In Washington, representatives of Israel and Lebanon meet directly, mediated by Marco Rubio. This meeting alone is unusual, because the two states have no diplomatic relations. The goal on paper appears clear: to end the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. But the central actor is missing - for good reason. Hezbollah is not at the table. The Lebanese state can negotiate, but it does not fully control this terrorist organization. That leaves any agreement uncertain before it is even formulated.

At the same time, the focus shifts to the next level. Donald Trump announces that new talks with Iran could take place within the next two days - again in Pakistan. The breakdown of the last round has escalated the situation, but the door is not closed. We will be on site in any case.

It is precisely this prospect that stabilizes the markets in the short term. Oil prices remain below the one hundred dollar mark, stocks are rising. Investors are not reacting to the current situation, but to the hope that it will not escalate further.

While diplomatic movement is taking place, the situation at sea remains contradictory. The announced blockade in the Strait of Hormuz is having an effect, but not complete control. Officially no ship is getting through, at the same time data shows movements of tankers linked to Iran. Some ships stop before the passage or turn away. That indicates pressure, not absolute closure. A space is emerging in which decisions are made situationally.

Two developments are therefore running in parallel. On paper, new talks. On the water, a measure that is already creating facts. And that is exactly where the tension of this situation lies. Negotiations continue - but decisions are made elsewhere.

January 6 will not be forgotten - it will be erased

The Justice Department wants to overturn the convictions for seditious conspiracy. Affected are Stewart Rhodes and key figures of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers - those men who were not simply present on January 6, 2021, but coordinated and drove the attack on the Capitol. The most severe sentences after that day. Now they are to disappear. One central name is not missing from this list by accident: Enrique Tarrio. His conviction had already been overturned earlier, the charges dropped. The current step picks up exactly there and extends the line to the remaining participants.

In Remembrance and as a Warning – The Voices and the Death – What Police Officers Really Experienced on January 6

The justification is brief. It is in the interest of justice, it says. Nothing more. Legally, this is possible. Politically, it is a sentence that says everything without explaining anything.

At the beginning of his second term, Trump pardoned more than 1,500 participants. The leading figures of the conspiracy were deliberately excluded at that time. Their prison sentences were reduced, the convictions remained. That was the last line. Now it is to fall as well. If courts agree, the records will be erased - as if they had never existed.

At the same time, the case against Stephen K. Bannon was withdrawn. We reported on this. Other efforts at accountability were quietly set aside. It is not happening all at once, not with a major announcement. It happens step by step, just before deadlines, in the middle of ongoing proceedings, without anyone loudly saying no.

What is happening here is not a legal process. It is a political one. January 6, 2021 is not to be reassessed - it is to legally cease to exist. Not through words, not through speeches, not through a new version of history. But through the quiet disappearance of verdicts that once stood for what happened on that day.

An event where people died, that millions of people watched live, is being rewritten in court. And this time not by historians.

Record profits in war - billions through chaos in the markets

While bombs are falling, the numbers are rising elsewhere. JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and Wells Fargo together reach more than 25 billion dollars in profit in the first quarter of 2026. The reason is not stability, but the opposite. War against Iran, military operations in Venezuela, and strong fluctuations in financial markets. That is exactly where the business emerges. When prices jump, opportunities arise. Banks buy and sell securities in rapid succession, for clients and on their own account. Every movement creates new opportunities, every uncertainty increases the pace.

JPMorgan achieves 11.6 billion dollars in trading revenue, more than ever before. Profit rises significantly above expectations. Citigroup reports its best quarter in ten years, with a massive increase in profit. Wells Fargo continues to expand its lending business and surpasses the one trillion dollar mark for the first time. At the same time, costs are rising for many people. Fuel becomes significantly more expensive, driven by the war. The burden grows, while profits are generated at desks. The mechanism behind it is simple. In calm times little happens, prices barely move. In crises they surge up and down. Banks use exactly these movements.

In addition, large investors constantly shift their funds, hedge risks, build new positions. Each of these transactions generates fees. In the end, a picture emerges that cannot be glossed over. War can be very profitable if you are sitting at the right desk.

Investigations show: Russia is pushing users out of VPNs - access only under supervision

Anyone in Russia using an active VPN is increasingly encountering barriers. Major providers display warnings or block access directly. MTS warns when opening the app about restricted functions, Megafon asks users to deactivate circumvention tools. Beeline is also joining in. On platforms such as Ozon or Yandex Pay, they go further. There, access via VPN is in some cases completely blocked.

It appears that you are using a VPN.

Access is not possible.
This is a requirement of the regulatory authority.

What you can do:

✔ Disable VPN
If it is active on your device.

✔ Choose another WiFi network
If the VPN is set up via the router.

Try again

The reasoning is clear. It is about compliance with regulatory requirements. Without disabling the VPN, no access. Even payment services directly refer to regulatory obligations. Behind this development is a coordinated measure by the Ministry of Digital Development of Russia. The goal is to significantly reduce the use of VPNs in the country. Companies received clear deadlines and instructions. Those who refuse risk serious consequences. Exclusion from state lists and the loss of accreditations are on the table. For many companies, that is not an option.

However, the implementation shows limits. On iPhones, an active VPN can hardly be detected. Apple’s operating system strongly restricts app access to such data. Nevertheless, the pressure is increasing. Step by step, the possibility of using services anonymously or via detours is disappearing. In the end, a digital environment emerges in which access is no longer a given, but tied to conditions.

Notice regarding reporting
Due to the current developments in the Middle East, part of our team is already on its way back to the region - even though we only recently returned from Tehran and Islamabad.

The background is possible ceasefire talks in Islamabad as well as an overall further escalation of the situation, which makes an immediate presence necessary. At the same time, a total of 81 cases related to ICE are before the courts this week. To do justice to both, we need solid planning.

There may therefore be occasional slight delays in reporting. Of course, we will do everything to ensure that this does not happen. We ask for your understanding.

An old acquaintance and a looming interview - pressure on Melania is growing

A former associate suddenly moves into the spotlight. Amanda Ungaro, once part of Melania Trump’s circle, announces that she will speak publicly, while television networks and major media outlets are already making inquiries. Ungaro now lives back in Brazil after her deportation from the United States and is simultaneously involved in a custody dispute with Paolo Zampolli, who is politically closely tied to Donald Trump. The pressure comes from her statements, as she says she was on board Jeffrey Epstein’s aircraft as a teenager and at the same time hints that she knows more about her environment at the time. On social media, the tone becomes clear, she speaks of exposing a system and not being afraid, a message that is clearly directed, even if details are lacking.

In terms of timing, this coincides with a public appearance by Melania in which she rejects allegations related to Epstein, although it remains unclear whether the two are directly connected, the tension is visibly growing. At the same time, attention shifts, because alongside political issues, personal connections and old contacts are once again coming into focus. This also causes unrest in Trump’s circle, because names are returning that were long considered settled and are now reconnecting with familiar stories. Nothing has been published yet, no interview, no detailed account, but the announcement alone creates impact. And that alone is enough to noticeably change the situation.

Europe prepares for the worst case - NATO without the US suddenly becomes concrete

In Europe, something is beginning that was long unthinkable. Within NATO, plans are emerging for the scenario that the US withdraws or pulls out. What once seemed like a thought experiment is now being prepared. The trigger is Donald Trump’s course. Threats to leave the alliance, criticism of European partners and the dispute over the war against Iran have shaken trust.

The decisive moment came from Berlin. Friedrich Merz positions himself behind a stronger European role. For decades, Germany had rejected exactly that and relied on the US as a security guarantee. Now the logic is reversing. Europe is to take on more responsibility, strengthen its own structures and, if necessary, remain capable of acting even without Washington. This is not about a new alliance, but about using existing NATO structures under European leadership.

In practical terms, this means more European officers in leadership positions, their own logistics, their own intelligence, more military production. Countries such as France, the United Kingdom, Poland and the Nordic states are joining in.

But the gaps are obvious. In intelligence, satellites, missile warning systems and above all nuclear deterrence, Europe remains dependent. That is why discussions are underway about whether France could expand its deterrence. Domestically, it is also becoming concrete. The reintroduction of conscription is back on the agenda. At the same time, the production of weapons and equipment is being accelerated. The shift is already underway. Exercises are increasingly led by European armed forces, command posts are being reassigned. Nevertheless, uncertainty remains. NATO is built around the United States, from the top to the infrastructure. Europe is preparing to fill that role. Not out of strength, but because there is no alternative.

Und rechtzeitig weiß, was Trump wieder postet.
