Setback in the Senate - Trump Fails to Push Through Medicaid Exclusion

Washington - It is a rare moment in the politically charged climate of the United States: The Republican-dominated Senate has turned against a central measure of President Donald Trump. With a vote of 56 to 44, senators rejected an amendment that would have excluded people without legal residency status from the government health insurance program Medicaid.

The amendment was part of Trump’s controversial “One Big Beautiful Bill” - a massive legislative package full of tax breaks for the wealthy, spending cuts, and hardline immigration policies. But now it is becoming clear: Even within his own ranks, loyalty is beginning to crumble. Apparently, several Republican senators refused to support a measure that would have left millions of vulnerable people without any medical coverage.

For Trump, this is a visible setback. His prestige project, already referred to by critics as the “Big Ugly Bill,” is starting to falter. While the overall package has not yet failed - the vote shows that not everything dictated by the White House is set in stone. The upcoming votes will reveal how deep the rifts really are - even within his own party.
