SpaceX has sent Starship into Earth orbit for the first time and deployed 26 new Starlink satellites. One of the 3 main engines shut down earlier than planned, but the crucial burn into orbit still succeeded. It was Starship’s 14th test flight and also its first mission carrying a real payload. The new V3 satellites are designed to handle significantly more data and help Starlink expand faster. Starship is also expected to be used later for NASA moon missions and, in the long term, crewed flights to Mars.

If Democrats win the House or Senate in November, they plan to investigate the Trump family’s business dealings extensively. Among the main areas of interest are Trump-linked crypto companies, Donald Trump Jr.’s investment firm 1789 Capital and companies that donated to Trump’s ballroom. Jared Kushner’s business dealings with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are also expected to come under scrutiny, along with a $620 million Pentagon loan to Vulcan Elements after an investment by 1789 Capital. A majority in either chamber would give Democrats subpoena power and additional staff, and the first investigations could begin as early as February. Several companies are already preparing for possible investigations by hiring lawyers and conducting internal reviews. The White House dismisses the allegations as politically motivated, while some Republicans are now also calling for investigations into Donald Trump Jr.’s business dealings.

South Korea is demanding an official explanation and apology from Ukraine after Kyiv publicly disclosed the transfer of 2 North Korean prisoners of war to Seoul. According to South Korea's presidential office, both sides had previously agreed to keep the transfer confidential, including for security reasons and to protect the prisoners' families in North Korea. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later mentioned the transfer before the UN General Assembly without sufficient prior consultation with Seoul. South Korea reacted especially sharply to Ukraine's subsequent denial that any confidentiality agreement had existed at all. Seoul says trust has been seriously damaged and is reviewing further steps that could also affect bilateral relations. The 2 soldiers were captured in Russia's Kursk region in January 2025 after North Korea sent troops to support Russia in the war.

07:50 PM 5 arrested near U.S. air base in England - Trump says they were planning “big damage”

British counterterrorism investigators arrested 5 men near RAF Fairford on Sunday after 3 suspicious vans were reported heading toward the military airfield. The men are being held on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act. Trump said the suspects had been looking to do “big damage” and had already been under observation by British and American authorities for some time. According to a person familiar with the investigation, an Iran-linked motive is currently considered the most likely line of inquiry, though possible Russian sabotage or an Islamist motive are also being examined. A 400-meter cordon was set up around the base, and 85 homes in a nearby village were evacuated. RAF Fairford had been used by the United States for strikes on Iranian missile sites. British police stress that the investigation is still in its very early stages and that the background has not yet been conclusively established.

Northern Ireland's High Court has temporarily stopped a Protestant Orange Order march planned for Sunday from passing through the predominantly Catholic Garvaghy Road in Portadown. The route had been banned since 1998 after earlier marches there became one of the best-known flashpoints of Northern Ireland's sectarian conflict. The Parades Commission unexpectedly allowed the march again on Friday, though only for 35 participants and without bands or supporters. Judge Patricia Smyth has now suspended that decision until a judicial review is resolved. A representative of the Orange Order announced an appeal for Saturday night. Europe’s seas experienced their hottest summer since reliable satellite measurements began in 1982. Between June and August, the average temperature was 21.6 degrees Celsius, while the Bay of Biscay was more than 2.4 degrees above the long-term average. There, an estimated 95 percent of the large kelp forests have already disappeared, with consequences for lobsters, crayfish, and sea urchins. At the same time, warm-water species are moving into new areas. Off southern England, octopus populations are exploding, with catches rising from less than 30 tons a year to more than 3,000 tons now. For some fishermen, that means money in the short term, while others are losing the stocks they depended on and with them their livelihoods. Researchers warn that the speed of these changes has become almost impossible to plan around.

The Democrats’ message is clear: If they win the majority, they intend to use Congress’s oversight powers fully against the White House.
