09:18 PM Six U.S. Senators Push Back Against Trump's Diesel Deal With Putin, Accusing Him of Potentially Breaking the Law
Four Republican and 2 Democratic senators are demanding that Donald Trump immediately reverse his controversial diesel deal with Vladimir Putin. Trump announced that Russia would initially supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by another 500,000 tons in November and millions more tons after that. The senators accuse the administration of bypassing Congress and failing to provide the explanation required by law. Back in 2022, Congress banned energy imports from Russia to prevent Moscow from using that money to finance its war of aggression against Ukraine. Republican Senator Thom Tillis said there are good reasons to believe Trump would be breaking the law if he goes through with the deal. The signatories include Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, John Curtis, Jeanne Shaheen, and Richard Blumenthal. While Russia continues killing Ukrainian civilians, Trump wants to buy Russian diesel, supposedly to bring down high fuel prices in the United States. The 6 senators explicitly warn against handing Putin a financial lifeline.
10:12 AM Trump will Fetterman abwerben: Die Angst um die Senatsmehrheit treibt die Republikaner zu den Demokraten
Just weeks before the midterm elections, Donald Trump is trying to convince Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania to switch parties. “I’d love to see him as a Republican,” Trump said Saturday. The president knows what's at stake: His party could lose its majority in the Senate, and Democrats need to pick up four additional seats to take control. Fetterman has increasingly distanced himself from his party over his positions on immigration and Israel, and most recently attacked Democrats at a Republican convention over alleged extremism and socialism. Yet the very man Trump now wants to bring into his party said back in May that he'd be a terrible Republican who would still vote overwhelmingly with Democrats. As Trump fights for every Senate seat, he's now trying to win over a Democratic senator with public praise. So far, Fetterman has not responded to Trump's latest appeal.
03:22 AM Democrats Take the Fight Into Trump's Strongholds: The Battle for Congress Reaches Deep Into Republican Territory
Democrats are deliberately expanding their campaigns ahead of the November 3 midterm elections into districts that Donald Trump won by significant margins in 2024. Their target list now includes 66 Republican-held seats, including 14 newly added districts. The strategy is designed to force Republicans to spend money and deploy campaign staff even in places where they previously felt safe. Tennessee stands out in particular: That's where 31-year-old Democrat Justin Pearson is running in a district Republicans redrew in their own favor, one Trump won by more than 21 percentage points. Pearson nevertheless reports growing support, including among independent and Republican voters struggling with the high cost of living. In Nevada, a Republican organization has already spent nearly $750,000 on campaign advertising for a candidate in one of the newly targeted districts. Republicans mock the strategy as costly overconfidence, while election analysts question whether Democrats can raise enough money to fund so many additional campaigns. To take control of the House of Representatives, Democrats need a net gain of 4 seats, but only around 50 of the 435 congressional districts are considered genuinely competitive.

10:45 PM "Ragebait" Is Germany's Youth Word of the Year 2026: Anger Wins
"Ragebait" has been voted Germany's Youth Word of the Year 2026. With 36.5 percent of the vote, the term narrowly beat "Peak" (33.8 percent) and "Crashout" (29.7 percent). According to the publisher, around one million young people took part in the vote. The term refers to deliberately provocative or false content designed to make people angry and provoke reactions. The tactic is particularly successful on social media because outrage generates comments, likes, and reach, and algorithms reward it. The fact that "ragebait" of all things was chosen as Youth Word of the Year says a lot about a digital public sphere where making people angry is an especially effective way to attract attention. This is exactly the situation we've been warning about for months.
07:17 AM Trump Doesn't Get the Nobel Peace Prize and Promptly Declares Norway a Disgrace
Donald Trump didn't get the Nobel Peace Prize again, and this time he went straight after Norway over it. He called the decision "shameful" and said it had left an "indelible stain" on the country. He called Nobel laureate Navi Pillay a "mysterious person" whom supposedly nobody had ever heard of. While he was at it, Trump described the Nobel Committee as a bunch of radical ideologues and "enemies of civilization." As proof that he deserved the Peace Prize himself, he rattled off conflicts he claimed to have prevented or resolved. He offered no evidence, but plenty of self-confidence. The Peace Prize stayed in Oslo. The bitter whining followed him all the way to Syracuse.

03:25 PM 78 Percent Blame Trump for Rising Prices: Even Republicans Are Losing Confidence
A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows a major problem for Trump ahead of the midterms: 78 percent of respondents say his policies bear at least some responsibility for the rising cost of living. Even among Republicans, 64 percent say the White House shares the blame, while 57 percent say their expenses are rising faster than their incomes. The numbers are especially bad on inflation: 68 percent of all respondents and 40 percent of Republicans are unhappy with Trump’s handling of it. Gas averaged $4.36 a gallon nationwide on Thursday, while diesel stood at $6.28. Tariffs, the Iran war, and rising energy costs are widely seen as drivers of higher prices. For 54 percent, the cost of living has gone up significantly, and financial pressure has become one of the most important issues shaping how people plan to vote. Even where Trump still has political support, the economic reality is visibly eating into it.

Nord Stream Back in Business: U.S. and Russia Explore Gas Sales to Europe
Senior U.S. and Russian officials have discussed bringing an American investor into the Nord Stream pipelines and restarting Russian gas deliveries to Germany. Jared Kushner and Putin confidant Kirill Dmitriev were among those involved in the talks. Such a deal could allow U.S. investors to profit from future energy business with Europe. Major obstacles remain, however, since Nord Stream is under U.S. and EU sanctions, Germany opposes restarting the pipelines and points to alternative gas supplies. Before the war in Ukraine, Germany got more than half of its gas from Russia. Critics in Berlin are warning about a deal in which Americans and Russians could profit while Europe bears the political and security costs. At the same time, there are also talks about a possible sale of Lukoil assets to a consortium involving a U.S. federal investment agency and investors from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
