03:18 AM Without Warning: How Washington Is Weakening Ukraine Under Russia's Bombardment Starlink
Dein Browser unterstützt dieses Video nicht.

Zelenskyy: "We can't afford to show weakness. Otherwise, we can't survive … That's why it's painful when Trump chooses to side with Russia. This is not the right side of history."

Without any warning, SpaceX restricted the use of military Starlink connections in Ukraine, disrupting Ukrainian attack and defense drones. According to Ukrainian military officials, the 160 km/h (99 mph) speed limit forced several missions to be aborted. Elon Musk said the U.S. government, and ultimately Trump, decides on such restrictions. At the same time, Kyiv reported that it had gone 2 days without receiving Western advance warnings of Russian missile attacks. Russia bombed power plants and residential buildings, damaged 30 energy facilities according to Zelenskyy, and left around 600,000 people without electricity. Two people were killed and 21 injured in Kyiv, while another 6 people were killed in Lutsk. As Trump pressures Ukraine to stop attacking Russian oil refineries, Zelenskyy accuses Moscow of openly disregarding the United States and warns that the Starlink restrictions will cost numerous lives.

18:25 Uhr AfD and BSW Clear the Way for Putin: Saxony-Anhalt's State Parliament Votes to Disarm Ukraine
In Saxony-Anhalt's state parliament, the AfD and BSW joined forces to pass a motion calling for an end to German weapons deliveries to Ukraine. From now on, Germany should provide only emergency humanitarian aid. AfD parliamentary leader Ulrich Siegmund celebrated the decision as "historic," while his lawmakers pounded their desks and shouted "Hell yes!" BSW parliamentary leader Claudia Wittig defended Russia's supposed security concerns and claimed Putin was willing to negotiate. The fact that Moscow is demanding more Ukrainian territory and the effective disarmament of the country it attacked before negotiations can even begin apparently didn't bother the new majority much. The CDU, SPD, Greens, and Left Party warned of a Russian victory and the possible collapse of Ukraine. SPD parliamentary leader Katja Pähle called the motion "an obscene reversal of victim and perpetrator," while the Left Party described it as "a gift to Vladimir Putin." The resolution has no immediate consequences for foreign policy, but it reveals just what kind of position can now command a majority in the state parliament. Siegmund wants to be elected minister-president before Christmas, while caretaker state premier Sven Schulze already suspects a political backroom deal between the AfD and BSW behind the motion
02:42 Uhr A Gift to Putin, a Betrayal of Ukraine: Even Republicans Are Now Rebelling Against Trump's Diesel Deal
12 U.S. senators, including 6 Republicans, are demanding that Donald Trump immediately reverse his diesel agreement with Russia. By lifting sanctions on Russian diesel exports, Trump is opening up additional sources of revenue for Moscow while Putin continues his war against Ukraine. The agreed delivery of more than 300,000 metric tons of diesel amounts to less than a single day's demand from the American transportation sector. The senators call it a gift to an adversary and a betrayal of Ukraine and America's allies. The signatories include Mitch McConnell, Susan Collins, and John Cornyn. Particularly explosive is the October 18 deadline: Under a new law, Trump must either impose sweeping sanctions on Russian energy transactions or explicitly waive them. Asked whether Russia could use the proceeds to finance more bombs, Trump said nobody had told him anything about it.

ß7:42 PM PM Hungary Partially Repeals Orbán's Anti-LGBT Law: Discrimination Remains
Hungary's parliament has voted 139 to 51 to repeal parts of the "Child Protection" law passed in 2021 under Viktor Orbán. The previous bans on portraying sexual and gender diversity and on its alleged "promotion" are being replaced with more general child protection provisions. Prime Minister Péter Magyar said the changes would bring Hungarian law into line with EU requirements. Human rights organizations welcome the move but criticize the fact that numerous discriminatory provisions remain in place. These include restrictions on the legal recognition of transgender people and provisions that have been used to ban Pride events. Magyar also announced plans to amend the ban on adoption by same-sex couples that has been in place since 2020.
02:58 AM Getty Images on the Brink of Bankruptcy: Billions in Debt, AI Competition, and a 99% Stock Market Collapse
Photo and video giant Getty Images is facing a radical new beginning. The company announced Monday that it plans to file for an expedited Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the coming weeks and then go private. Getty is carrying around $2.1 billion in debt, while its market value had recently shrunk to just $20.74 million. Since going public in 2022, its shares have lost roughly 99% of their value. The failed merger with Shutterstock and growing competition from AI-generated images have made the crisis even worse. The Getty family and Koch Equity Development plan to take full ownership of the company and provide up to $533 million in fresh equity. Business operations are expected to continue as usual during the bankruptcy proceedings, and suppliers are expected to be paid in full. A photo giant once valued at $4.8 billion is now disappearing from the public stock market, at least for the time being.
