Belle Plaine, Minnesota – The two-day manhunt for the suspect in the deadly attacks on two Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota has come to an end. Vance Boelter, who is accused of posing as a police officer and fatally shooting former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, was located Sunday in a wooded area near his home.
Boelter surrendered by crawling toward law enforcement officers and was taken into custody. He has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. Authorities say he also shot Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette earlier that same morning. The couple was injured but survived the attack, which occurred at their residence about 9 miles from the first crime scene.
The arrest brings a measure of relief to a state left shaken by what appears to be a targeted assault on Democratic officials. The motive remains unclear.
