Blackmail Instead of Support

Trump Demands Ukraine’s Surrender

Donald Trump is placing ever-growing demands on Ukraine to release urgently needed military aid and intelligence. According to a report by NBC, the U.S. president expects not only that Kyiv cedes territory to Russia but also that President Volodymyr Zelensky paves the way for new elections – possibly even preparing his own resignation.

These conditions amount to nothing less than diplomatic blackmail. While Ukraine fights for its survival every day, Trump is effectively demanding its surrender by forcing it to make territorial concessions to the aggressor. That these demands are being made precisely at a time when delegations from both countries are meeting in Saudi Arabia to discuss peace options shows that Trump is less interested in a genuine solution and more in playing into Russia’s hands.

Moreover, the United States and Ukraine are set to sign a mineral agreement next week – apparently a geopolitical deal that Trump finds insufficient. His hesitation on military aid thus becomes a political weapon, one he is using to force Kyiv to its knees.

Trump’s conditions not only undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty but also send a devastating signal to all U.S. allies: Those who hope for American support must be prepared to submit to the whims of a president who clearly values the interests of authoritarian regimes more than the struggle of a democracy against invasion.
