It was not simply a speech - it was an alliance of propaganda. On the stage of the United Nations, Sergei Lavrov declared in a cool voice: NATO had in fact declared war on Russia. In the background one could hear the whisper of a man with ambitions for power, whose name need not be mentioned. The accusation was not a loudly spoken act but a declaration of war in words.
The Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov says NATO has basically declared war on Russia.
Lavrov painted a picture: Ukraine as the playing field of a global conflict, directed by the EU and the US, orchestrated by NATO, aimed against Moscow. Every delivery of weapons, every diplomatic initiative - no longer legitimate support but participation in war. The boundaries between friend and foe, victim and perpetrator, crime and defense were redrawn - according to the interests of a man who laughs beyond the stage: Putin. But there was a second actor. Donald Trump, the master of staging, who with his tweets, provocations and contradictions alludes more than he explains. In this construction Trump becomes the backdrop, the confirmation of what Lavrov claims: that the West does not protect but whispers attack. Trump no longer needs to defend Moscow - Lavrov does it for him.
Is this real? No, not in the sense of an official declaration of war. But war does not begin only with bombs. War begins with narrative. With images. With assertions that become reality through repetition. Lavrov has flipped the narrative switch - and Trump stands behind him like an echo.
This is not debate. This is staging. This is a shadow battle in which words kill, reality is shifted and democracy loses itself in the mirror of propaganda. Whoever controls discourse controls the world. And in this hour Putin and Trump cast their shadows long.
