MAGA in the USA, AfD in Germany - the deadly seed of political delusion

The news of the murder of Charlie Kirk has shaken the United States. But even before the investigation files were fully sorted out, leaked chat logs between Tyler Robinson and his roommate reveal how deep the abyss was into which this young man had fallen. It is the story of a 22-year-old who not only planned a political assassination but also lived out a childhood trauma - shaped by a father who fully embraced the "Make America Great Again" delusion and carried it into his own home.

The messages read like the protocol of a destroyed soul. Robinson worries about his grandfather's rifle, which he had to leave behind in panic. He speaks of engraved cartridges, of the fear of leaving traces, of the pressure of having to explain to his father why the weapon was gone. "Since Trump took office, my father has been pretty hardcore MAGA," Robinson writes. A sentence that in its plainness says more than entire investigation reports.

It is the psychogram of a family consumed by political delusion. While the public sees the perpetrator as a radicalized lone wolf, much points to Robinson having grown up in an environment where conspiracy ideologies and political hardness were part of everyday life. Trump’s first term already marked the break: the father as a fervent supporter of the new president, the son as the silent victim of this politicization of privacy. But in the second term everything intensified. The chat logs show a young man torn between love for his family, fear of discovery, and a self-destructive urge.

Exactly this mechanism can be observed not only in American families. In Germany, too, recent years have shown how political radicalization, when fueled from above, devours private space. The rhetoric of the AfD - whether "remigration," agitation against refugees, or the constant dramatization of an alleged "threat" - is already reflected in the justifications of right-wing perpetrators. Official statistics show a massive increase in right-wing crimes since the AfD gained political significance: according to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the number of right-wing crimes in 2024 rose to 33,963 (+17.3% compared to the previous year) (Source: Federal Ministry of the Interior, Politically Motivated Crime 2024, press release of May 14, 2025). The Office for the Protection of the Constitution even recorded 37,835 offenses - almost twice as many as in 2013, the founding year of the AfD (Source: Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Report 2024, published June 2025). Perpetrators adopt vocabulary that comes from the programs and slogans of the party and turn it into violence. Just as in the USA the MAGA ideology, in Germany the völkisch furor of the AfD creates a climate in which hate becomes acceptable - and words turn into deeds.

Added to this is a flood of fake news, spread en masse by MAGA networks and the AfD alike. They spread lies, construct threats, and stir up mistrust against media, institutions, and entire population groups. This propaganda is not harmless, it poisons social coexistence down to everyday life. How often do we read on Facebook of friendships breaking over these fabricated stories? How often do these digital poisoned arrows split families and neighborhoods? What begins as a comment ends with the breaking of decades-old bonds. These fake news items are not just abstract disinformation - they are the currency of hate that corrodes societies from within.

"Why did I do it?" Robinson asks in one of the message threads. His answer: "I had enough of his hate. Some forms of hate cannot be negotiated." Words that do not only mean Kirk but also, unspoken, the father whose unshakable belief in Trump and his ideology poisoned the family climate. Tyler Robinson lived in a world in which the political fanaticism of the parents knew no outside. Every day was a reflection of the division that Trump carried into American society - only in this case it detonated right in the living room of a family. That Robinson eventually confessed to the murder of Kirk is shocking not only because of the act itself. It also shows what it means when political obsessions no longer have a valve but are passed on as family doctrine. A father who placed himself in the service of a political idol created pressure under which the son broke. The chat logs are the oppressive document of a generation that could no longer distinguish between political reality and private life. The truth that emerges here is bitter: Tyler Robinson was not only influenced by the rhetoric of a Charlie Kirk, but he had long been a prisoner of the "MAGA" vision lived by his father. The act may have been an individual act of violence, but it is deeply rooted in a climate that shaped him from childhood. It is a shocking example of how political delusion can tear apart not only a society but also a family - until the son pulls the trigger.

DAWUM - Presentation and Evaluation of Polls

And this delusion is not limited to America. In Germany we see the same dynamic - only with different names. The AfD carries its ideology into parliaments and living rooms, lowers the threshold for violence, and poisons the climate with the same mechanisms that made Trump and his disciples big. The statistics on right-wing crimes are the painful proof: radical words not only destroy political culture, they break into families, they shape children, they unleash trauma. Tyler Robinson's story is therefore not only an American drama - it is a warning for all of us.

At the municipal elections in NRW 2025, voter turnout was a meager 56.8 percent, the AfD reached 14.5 percent - and yet it gave the impression that the result was being downplayed or even celebrated by many. When asked why they had not gone to vote, numerous citizens explained that the AfD would "not get big anyway" in North Rhine-Westphalia - as if 14.5 percent were not a clear warning signal. This is exactly how it began in 1933: with belittling, looking away, and the delusion that extremists could be kept small by ignorance. Anyone who looks at the nationwide polling numbers sees the drama: CDU/CSU currently stand at 25.8 percent, the AfD at 25.4 percent, while SPD (14.8), Greens (11.4), and Left (10.4) lag far behind. This means that the AfD is already on par with the Union, and every non-voter in fact strengthens their position. What is needed now is engagement, resistance, and resolve - whether through going to the ballot box, contradiction in everyday life, or even just a letter to the chancellor. But if in the end only eight people are willing to raise their voices, it remains an ineffective drop in the bucket while democracy falls apart piece by piece.

Subject: Please examine and initiate - prohibition proceedings against the AfD

Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz
Bundeskanzleramt
Willy-Brandt-Straße 1

September 16, 2025

Dear Mr. Federal Chancellor,

the AfD is no longer a normal party. In several federal states offices for the protection of the constitution classify it as proven right-wing extremist. Its ideology is shaped by inhumanity, revisionism of history and a contempt for democratic institutions. Whoever defames the Holocaust memorial as a “monument of shame” or intimidates teachers crosses red lines.

Added to this: The AfD denies human-caused climate change, blocks every serious environmental and education policy and wants to erase truth from schools. By doing so it endangers the future of our children - ecologically, historically and democratically.

I urge you to use all legal means to initiate a prohibition of the AfD before the Federal Constitutional Court. Our country must not allow a right-wing extremist party to continue to prepare the ground for hate, historical lies and ignorance.

Sincerely,

Amtszeit plötzlich in diesen Sog abgedriftet.
