ICE Expands Airport Arrests - Even Pending Immigration Cases No Longer Offer Protection

The Trump administration's deportation policy has reached a new level. Investigations show that Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, is now deliberately arresting people at airports across the United States whose visas have expired. Those being detained are not limited to people with final deportation orders. They also include immigrants who are in the middle of active immigration proceedings and are waiting for visa extensions, work authorization renewals, or permanent residency decisions. Among those arrested are spouses of U.S. citizens, technology professionals, former au pairs, and asylum seekers. Further investigations and direct casework show that similar operations have already taken place at no fewer than 15 airports over the past several weeks. Officers frequently work in plain clothes and approach travelers directly at the check-in counter, at the departure gate, or while they are boarding their flights.

One woman from Ecuador was removed from a plane in Denver immediately after scanning her boarding pass, even though she was legally involved in an active immigration case and held a valid work permit issued by the Department of Homeland Security. A judge later ordered her release on bond. Immigration attorneys have also reported the case of a seriously ill woman from Uganda with a pending asylum application, along with an Indian engineer who was arrested while his work authorization renewal was still under review. According to numerous immigration lawyers, this marks a dramatic break from previous practice. In the past, people with pending immigration cases generally were not considered deportation priorities as long as they had not committed crimes. The Trump administration is now treating virtually every visa overstay as illegal presence. At the same time, ICE's daily arrest quota has reportedly been raised to around 2,000 arrests. Several immigration attorneys are now openly advising their clients not to take domestic flights while their immigration status remains under review. What used to be considered a routine flight within the United States can now turn into an arrest and immigration detention within minutes.

AfD Extends Lead While SPD Falls Behind The Left

Six weeks before the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany's governing coalition is facing an even deeper political crisis in nationwide polling. According to the latest survey by the Forsa polling institute, the AfD has gained more support and now stands at 27 percent. That puts the party six percentage points ahead of the CDU/CSU alliance. The conservative bloc has slipped to 21 percent and continues to lose ground in its claim to shape Germany's political direction.

The numbers are even worse for the SPD. Stuck at 12 percent, the Social Democrats have now fallen behind The Left, which has climbed to 13 percent, its strongest showing in this poll since June 2010. The Greens remain in third place with 16 percent, while the FDP has now spent a sixth straight week below the five percent threshold at just four percent. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance no longer receives enough support to be listed separately. At the same time, undecided voters and non-voters remain unusually high at 27 percent. When asked which party people trust most to handle Germany's problems, the AfD has moved into first place after gaining another three percentage points in just one week. The CDU/CSU continues losing public confidence, along with the SPD and the Greens.

For Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the numbers are another sobering warning. Despite new pension and tax proposals, healthcare reforms, and personnel changes within the CDU, his personal approval ratings have improved only slightly. At the same time, 71 percent of respondents expect Germany's economy to get even worse. Only 11 percent believe conditions will improve at all. Nearly one out of every two Germans now says the federal government's performance is the country's most important political issue. Any hopes of gaining momentum after Parliament's summer recess appear to be fading. Instead, more and more people believe the government is no longer capable of getting its own problems under control.

The Chicxulub Asteroid Didn't Kill the Dinosaurs Instantly - Earth Turned Into an Inferno

Sixty-six million years ago, the Chicxulub asteroid slammed into Earth. For decades, scientists believed the impact itself was primarily responsible for the mass extinction. New calculations now suggest the real catastrophe continued for years afterward. The impact blasted enormous amounts of dust and molten rock into the upper layers of the atmosphere. Part of that material consisted of tiny dust particles that acted like a blanket, trapping heat across the planet. At the same time, millions of glowing rock droplets fell back to Earth. As they reentered the atmosphere, they generated enormous amounts of heat. The consequences were devastating. Forests and dry vegetation ignited across vast areas while global temperatures continued to climb.

According to the researchers' calculations, many animals were exposed to heat radiation equal to roughly 17 times the dose considered fatal for humans. Countless living creatures were literally burned alive. The species that survived were mainly those that found shelter underground or underwater. Among them were the dinosaur lineages that eventually evolved into today's birds. Even the massive impact crater remained hot for millions of years. There, molten rock mixed with seawater and created a hydrothermal system where microorganisms continued to survive. While much of the planet's life disappeared above the surface, new life had already begun finding a way forward deep beneath the ground.

Canada's Boycott Is Costing America Billions - Trump's Policies Are Hitting the U.S. Economy

Donald Trump likes to portray his policies as a show of strength. But one of America's closest allies is no longer responding with complaints. Instead, Canadians are responding with consequences. More and more Canadians are deliberately choosing not to travel to the United States, and the economic impact has become impossible to ignore. According to the Canadian government, the U.S. economy is losing more than $3.3 billion because of the travel boycott. Canadian tourism to the United States fell by more than 30 percent this July compared to a year earlier, the sharpest decline since the attacks of September 11. Hotels, restaurants, amusement parks, and retailers across border states are already feeling the effects. This is no longer about one political dispute. It reflects a steady deterioration over many months.

Since the beginning of Trump's second term, his administration has imposed new tariffs on Canadian goods, targeted Canada's economic interests, and repeatedly questioned the country's sovereignty. Trump has repeatedly suggested that Canada should become the 51st state and has publicly referred to Prime Minister Mark Carney as a governor. Even the opening ceremony for the new Gordie Howe Bridge between Michigan and Ontario became a political dispute after Canada withdrew invitations to U.S. officials. Public trust has also collapsed. While 83 percent of Canadians described the United States as a reliable partner in 2022, that number has now fallen to just 35 percent. The consequences are no longer limited to opinion polls. They are showing up at airports, hotels, and tourist destinations across America.

What was intended as pressure on Canada is increasingly becoming a major economic problem for the United States itself. Trump's confrontational approach is now costing America not only diplomatic standing but billions of dollars in lost revenue as well.

When the Government Hands Someone a Gun - An Excerpt From Our Investigation

Every criminal case begins with a question that lingers far longer than any verdict: Who gave the perpetrator the authority that made the crime possible in the first place? Investigative journalists, attorneys, and the Ohio Immigrant Alliance have documented 59 men connected to ICE, Border Patrol, Customs, or related federal agencies. Eighty-five percent of the cases involve sexual offenses, and nearly two-thirds involve children. These are allegations, indictments, and convictions, each requiring its own precise legal description.

Andrew Golobic served as an ICE deportation officer from 2006 through 2020, including about five years in the Alternatives to Detention program. ICE entrusted him with authority over reporting requirements, electronic monitoring, and detention recommendations. A federal jury convicted him of forcing a woman under his supervision into non-consensual sexual acts, obstructing a human trafficking investigation, and destroying evidence. In March 2025, a federal judge sentenced him to 12 years in prison. The woman did not encounter him as an ordinary citizen. She faced someone who controlled decisions affecting her freedom. Rejecting him carried consequences. Reporting him meant turning to the very system that had empowered him.

Ramon Marquez, a Customs officer, was assigned to the Border Patrol Explorer Program, which introduces teenagers to careers within the agency. According to court records, he sexually abused a minor participating in the program. Investigators also discovered inappropriate messages sent to another child. Parents placed their trust in someone presented by a federal program as a vetted official. That trust was never earned by him alone. It was granted through the authority of the institution.

Samuel Saxon, deputy chief of ICE's Cincinnati office, raises another question: How long does official authority remain intact after repeated warning signs appear? Police responded to his home multiple times following serious domestic violence allegations involving his partner. He later pleaded guilty to lying to a federal investigator. The reported domestic violence and the guilty plea remain legally separate matters, yet both occurred while ICE continued allowing him to serve in a leadership position.

It is easy to dismiss every one of these cases as an isolated incident. That is precisely where the mistake begins. Calling them isolated cases shifts attention away from the agency that hired them, screened them, disciplined them, and ultimately decided whether they would continue exercising federal authority. The men bear responsibility for their own crimes. The agency bears responsibility for placing that authority in their hands.

The Department of Homeland Security describes its background screening process as comprehensive and continuous. For victims, that promise means nothing unless new information actually leads to protection. A background investigation completed during hiring protects no one if later warning signs never result in restrictions. Every day a firearm, a federal badge, or access to government databases remains in someone's possession after those warning signs emerge extends the reach of the person still holding that authority.

In the end, responsibility also reaches Congress. Congress approves the budgets, staffing levels, firearms, databases, and youth recruitment programs. Every expansion places more people under the authority of federal employees whose continued access should be independently reviewed. To this day, Congress has failed to establish a transparent system that publicly reports arrests, indictments, and revoked law enforcement authority. Power without accountability is not a flaw in the system. It is the system's most convenient operating method. We are currently investigating 14 additional cases. Instead of becoming fewer, they keep becoming more.

Visa Cuts 2,600 Jobs - The Restructuring Is Already Underway

Payment giant Visa is eliminating roughly 2,600 jobs, reducing its workforce by about seven percent. CEO Ryan McInerney says the cuts are part of a fundamental restructuring of the company. According to him, Visa has to change the way it operates in order to be ready for the next phase of its business. Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly important role in that transition. The company says it plans to automate repetitive tasks while speeding up the development of new products. At the same time, Visa intends to invest billions in new business areas, including digital payment services, international money transfers, business solutions, and stablecoin transactions.

Company leadership insists the layoffs are not the result of financial trouble. Visa points to strong earnings, satisfied customers, and faster product development. That does little for the thousands of employees losing their jobs while the company continues performing well financially. Visa is far from alone. Other major financial technology companies have also announced significant layoffs. Since the beginning of 2026, nearly 135,000 technology jobs have disappeared worldwide. Experts are increasingly warning that the impact extends far beyond individual companies. As large numbers of high-paying white-collar jobs disappear, governments also begin losing significant tax revenue. The transformation of the workplace is no longer a prediction. It is already happening.

Fake Battlefield Victories? Investigations Suggest Russia Is Distributing Videos Featuring Artificially Generated Soldiers

A new form of disinformation may now be emerging in the war in Ukraine. Based on investigative reporting and the analysis of multiple independent researchers, videos have been identified in which Russian soldiers and flags appear to have been digitally inserted into authentic drone footage in order to create the impression of territorial gains that never actually occurred. One of the videos centers on the village of Bilyi Kolodiaz in Ukraine's Kharkiv region. Russian channels claimed the settlement had been captured. But analysts noticed that the supposed Russian soldier carrying the flag suddenly disappears without any obvious explanation. Moments later, the flag itself also vanishes. Further analysis uncovered additional irregularities. When compared with satellite imagery, the inserted soldier appears to be nearly three meters wide at one point.

At the same time, Ukrainian military monitoring groups continue to report that the village remains fully under Ukrainian control. A second video from Khrystoforivka displays similar anomalies. In that footage, the flag suddenly unfurls by itself despite completely calm weather, while the soldier gradually disappears from the image, beginning with his head. Just days earlier, even a Russian pro-war military channel reported that some commanders had allegedly been using fabricated flag videos to claim nonexistent territorial advances while concealing actual battlefield losses. If these allegations are confirmed, they would mark another step in a war where the fight is no longer limited to towns and villages, but now also extends to images, reports, and the appearance of military success.
