In the shadow of escalating tensions between the U.S., Iran, and Israel, an internal power struggle is unfolding that could shake the leadership structure of America’s national security agencies. According to White House insiders, President Donald Trump is increasingly losing confidence in his Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard – and is reportedly considering dissolving her entire office. The backdrop is an open disagreement over the administration’s approach to Iran. Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii, had released a three-minute video on X (formerly Twitter) on June 10, in which she warned that “political elites and warmongers” are “recklessly escalating fear and tensions between nuclear powers,” bringing the world “to the brink of nuclear annihilation.”

Für Trump war das ein Affront – ein „Off-Message-Moment“, wie es ein Regierungsmitarbeiter gegenüber Politico To Trump, the video was an affront – an “off-message moment,” as one senior official told Politico. The president reportedly reprimanded Gabbard personally and is said to be “generally increasingly dissatisfied” with her role, claiming she “adds nothing to national security discussions.” The break became public on Tuesday when Trump was asked aboard Air Force One about Gabbard’s testimony before Congress in March, in which she stated that although Iran’s uranium enrichment levels were at a record high, experts believed the country was not actively pursuing a nuclear weapon. Trump’s response: “I don’t care what she said. I think they were very close to having a weapon.” Internally, he is reportedly considering folding Gabbard’s office into CIA headquarters – a move that could significantly impact the independence of the U.S. intelligence community.

Tulsi Gabbard is not alone in her skeptical stance toward U.S. involvement in Israel’s Operation Rising Lion. Figures from within the MAGA movement like Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Taylor Greene have also spoken out against intervention – echoing much of Gabbard’s rhetoric. Carlson even suggested on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast that Gabbard’s exclusion from a high-level Camp David conference was a sign of a “regime change agenda.” Official sources have denied that. Vice President JD Vance publicly backed Gabbard, calling her “an essential force within the 2024 coalition.” A White House spokesperson likewise insisted that Trump “has full confidence in his exceptional national security team.” But behind the scenes, pressure is mounting. Critics such as Mark Levin and John Bolton are openly questioning Gabbard’s fitness for the role, while Gabbard herself is keeping her political future open. When asked about another potential presidential run during an appearance on Megyn Kelly’s podcast, she replied, “I will never rule out any opportunity to serve my country.”
