Ice-Cold Rejection - ICE Barbie Stays Grounded

The patriotic Barbie of the Trump cabinet wanted to fly - but the airports of this nation just waved her off. Kristi Noem, the self-proclaimed border guardian with a permanent smile and a grip on the Bible, had a plan: while millions of Americans are losing their jobs or have no food on the table because of the shutdown, her video message was supposed to morally awaken passengers at airports. Too bad that most airports now apparently prefer to take off rather than watch this nonsense.

The Department of Homeland Security, under Noem’s firm hand now more reality show than agency, had sent a nice little package to all major airports: a video in which Noem - perfectly made up, with a stars-and-stripes background - blames the Democrats for the stalemate. “We are fighting for America,” she coos, as if it were a beauty contest on the tarmac. Then follows, MAGA-style, an appeal to “patriotic travelers” to be grateful to the president for “protecting us.”

The reaction? A collective eye roll that echoed all the way to the baggage claim. More than half a dozen airports rejected the video - from Atlanta to Seattle. Officially because they did not want to show partisan advertising. Unofficially because they didn’t want to bother passengers with political cosmetics between security checks and Starbucks. “We already have enough delays, we don’t need more,” one airport manager said dryly. Others said they didn’t even download the file - probably out of self-preservation. Even TSA employees, who usually confiscate every nail clipper, glanced up during the preview and said, “That’s more dangerous than anything in carry-on luggage.”

Noem reacted as she always does: offended, outraged, unshakably convinced. On Truth Social she ranted that the “leftist airports” were trying to “silence patriotism.” Observers suspect it was more about public health - people just wanted to avoid spontaneous laughter or terminal-level secondhand embarrassment. Yet the spot had everything Trump TV could wish for: pathos, villains, the invisible enemy called “Democrats,” and of course Noem’s unmistakable trademark - a voice somewhere between kindergarten teacher and field marshal. All that was missing was a plastic crown and a pink Jeep.

The rest of the country seems to have other concerns anyway. While airports want to remain politically neutral, pots in many cafeterias and soup kitchens are empty. Millions of women and children are losing their food benefits because of the shutdown. But Noem, true to the new GOP aesthetic, prefers to fight hunger with gloss. Maybe they should at least play her video in one place: at the baggage claim. That’s where lost things end up. It would be symbolic, honest - and finally politically correct.
