A Leaked DHS Document Exposes the Lie - While Trump Evokes “Left-Wing Extremists,” His Own Agencies Warn of Right-Wing and Islamist Violence

It is a document that was never meant to reach the public. Classified as “For Official Use Only” and “Law Enforcement Use Only,” it carries the sober title “Terrorism – Potential for Violence Targeting Pride Month 2025 Events.” Drafted by the Office of Intelligence and Analysis of the Department of Homeland Security, dated May 16, 2025. Yet its content stands in sharp contradiction to the rhetoric with which President Trump has been poisoning the political debate for months. While he repeatedly declares in speeches and on his channels that “left-wing extremists,” “Antifa,” and an allegedly violent LGBT lobby are the main enemy, his own security agencies warn internally about something entirely different: right-wing perpetrators and Islamist terror cells.

The analysis is clear. Pride Month 2025, with World Pride in Washington as its centerpiece, drawing up to three million visitors, was considered by the authorities a potential target for attacks. The threat was deemed “probable,” it said, even though no specific threat existed. Extremists “motivated by anti-LGB+ grievances” had in the past demonstrated that they target parades, clubs, bars, churches, or politicians. Named are not only Islamist groups like ISIS and al-Qaida, whose online propaganda regularly traffics in hatred against queer people. The document also lists a whole series of domestic acts - from the massacre in Colorado Springs in 2022 to the arrest of a man in Kansas in 2023 who planned a Pride attack, to threats made during Pride Month last year. In other words: the most dangerous perpetrators did not come from leftist movements but from the milieu of right-wing radicals and their ideology of hate.

Particularly explosive is the section in which DHS highlights a tactic that has already been used to deadly effect multiple times: vehicle attacks on crowds. On January 1, 2025, in New Orleans, an ISIS-inspired attacker drove into a New Year’s celebration, killing 14 people and injuring 57 others, before opening fire and being shot dead by police. Just a few weeks earlier in Magdeburg, a perpetrator driven by Islamophobia used a truck to kill six people and injure more than 200. The New Orleans attacker, according to the internal analysis, had researched this attack immediately beforehand. It is examples like these that led American authorities to conclude that copycat attacks against Pride events were likely.

Thus a glaring contradiction is exposed: publicly, every effort is made to maintain the image that the danger comes from “the left.” In press conferences, campaign speeches, and Fox News appearances, Trump speaks of “Antifa,” of “left-wing terror,” of supposedly radical activists threatening police and the state. Internally, however, his own analysts painted a different picture. They saw the greatest danger in exactly the milieu that Trump and his allies regularly downplay or even court - right-wing extremists who turned their anti-LGB+ and racist grievances into murderous energy.

For the queer community and its supporters, this paper is a bitter confirmation. That Pride parades and queer gatherings have been under threat for years was no mere assumption. Now there is proof that the US government itself assumed exactly that - only that it did not want to say so openly. That World Pride in Washington, the largest of its kind in US history, was marked in such a document as a potential target, while the same government publicly dismissed any criticism of right-wing violence, shows the full gulf between propaganda and reality.

This is about more than an internal briefing. It is about credibility, about protection, and about the question of whether politics is bound to truth or to its own ideology. That this document was leaked is therefore not a bureaucratic accident but a political wake-up call. It makes visible what many have been observing for years: the security agencies know where the real danger comes from. But the political leadership does not want to hear it - and even less to say it. While Trump continues railing against “the left,” he conceals that his own agency saw the Pride community in the highest danger.

And so, after Pride Month 2025, an uncomfortable truth remains: the division of America is not only a matter of culture wars but also a matter of life and death. Those who conceal the threat make themselves complicit in the risk that hatred of queer people once again turns into violence. The DHS document is a dark mirror of reality - and an indictment of those who deny it.
