In his inexhaustible mission to turn reality into a grotesque reality-TV format, he did not forget the name of a general, a governor or even his own treasury secretary - no, this time it was an entire ocean. Live on Fox and Friends, the cuddle couch of Trumpism, he began to speak with statesmanlike pathos about his meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky. Everything went according to script - until suddenly, like a stranded dolphin, he searched for the name of the water that separates America from Europe. "The… you know, the big one, the very big, the best ocean, everyone says it’s incredible…" - and the hosts smiled as if he had just explained the theory of relativity.
Imagine this: the commander-in-chief of the most powerful military force in the world, equipped with nuclear codes and unlimited ego, cannot remember what the Atlantic is called. The Atlantic! The thing that Columbus already crossed. The thing that planes fly over every day on their way to his golf courses in Scotland. Maybe someone should have told him: "Donald, that is the wet stuff between New Jersey and your bank account in Aberdeen." Of course his court will immediately get into position: "That was intentional! Brilliant! A 5D chess move to confuse the media!" And Fox will whisper that the president merely withheld the name out of patriotism, because America is bigger than any ocean. But the truth is as simple as it is brutal: a man who does not know what the Atlantic is called wants us to believe that he can direct the course of world history.
One could laugh if it were not so sad. But in this tragicomedy we are left only with gallows humor: Trump forgot the ocean - and with it perhaps also democracy, which lies somewhere at the bottom of the sea.
