Washington / Guam - The United States is deploying strategic stealth bombers of the B-2 Spirit type to the Pacific island of Guam. The move comes at a time of rising tensions in the Middle East - while President Donald Trump is considering whether the US should actively take Israel’s side in the ongoing confrontation with Iran. No official connection has been confirmed between the deployment and the attacks in the Middle East. But the symbolism is unmistakable: the B-2 bomber can be equipped with the 30,000-pound "Massive Ordnance Penetrator" - a special bomb designed for deeply buried targets such as Iran’s nuclear facilities. Observers see it as a silent show of force, a preparation for options being discussed only behind closed doors.
As we already reported in an earlier piece, in addition to a large number of tanker aircraft, additional fighter jets have also been deployed to Europe and the Middle East. A US Navy aircraft carrier, previously stationed in the Indo-Pacific region, is also on its way to the Middle East. The military buildup is unfolding quietly but purposefully - and is being accompanied by political rhetoric from Washington. Trump announced that he would decide within two weeks whether the United States would get involved militarily. That is, in his words, "enough time to see whether or not people come to their senses."
Military analysts are now watching closely to see whether the B-2 bombers will be moved beyond Guam - for example, to the British-American air base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. This location is considered an ideal launch point for air operations in the region. Just a few weeks ago, part of the strategic fleet there was replaced - B-2s swapped for B-52s. The fact that B-2 aircraft are now being repositioned again reinforces the suspicion that Washington is not only preparing for a diplomatic solution, but also for one that strikes deep - both underground and politically.
