Let’s imagine the unimaginable for a moment – no, not that Friedrich Merz discovers a social conscience or Alice Weidel visits a migrant shelter. Rather: 42% of AfD voters want to leave Germany. For good. According to a much-circulated image on social media. Sure, the exact number hasn’t been verified – but who’s going to nitpick decimals with such delightful prospects? As it turns out, a representative YouGov poll from May 2025 revealed something even better. 55% of AfD supporters said they would “definitely” emigrate, another 24% said “probably.” That adds up to an impressive 79% willing to leave their homeland – the very country they defend at every opportunity with all the subtlety of a grumpy bar regular. And now they want to go? Our answer: Off you go!

Just let that melt on your tongue for a moment: the same people who declare the downfall of the West at the sight of a refugee boat are now dreaming of a one-way ticket to freedom – wherever that may be. Maybe to Hungary, where freedom of speech is on clearance sale. Or to Russia, where the term “love of country” is still dictated from the very top. Or maybe they’ll just settle on Telegram – where the horizon is flat enough for everyone. Of course, one might sarcastically ask: What’s keeping them here? The gender craze? The heat pump? The public broadcaster’s weather map with Arabic cities? But that would be petty. Because in truth, these 79% deserve our thanks – not for what they said, but for what they make possible: a vision of a Germany with more reason, more decency – and far less rage at everything that breathes.

Of course, it will be sad when they go. The meat counters will be emptier, the comment sections quieter, the sovereign citizen groups smaller. But we are ready to make sacrifices. And if they need help packing – we’re ready. With luggage carts, thermos flasks, and a warm farewell smile. Or, as one might say in AfD-speak: “We only want what’s best for our country.” In this case: their departure.
