The New AfD Youth Leader - and His Trail Into the Heart of the Extreme Right

Jean-Pascal Hohm, the new chairman of the AfD youth organization “Generation Deutschland,” looks back on a political career that has shown close ties to extreme right-wing networks for years. As early as 2014, he was one of the founding figures of the Brandenburg branch of the “Junge Alternative.” By 2016 at the latest, he was demonstrably maintaining contacts with the “Identitarian Movement.” That same year, he completed an internship at the campaign organization “Ein Prozent,” considered a central actor of the New Right.

A few months later, he took part in a sit-in by the Identitarians in front of the CDU headquarters in Berlin. In 2017, Hohm lost a job as a parliamentary staffer in the state legislature after his Identitarian contacts became public. However, this did little to change his orientation. In 2018, he traveled to Rome to meet representatives of the neo-fascist movement “Casa Pound,” whose members describe themselves as the “fascists of the third millennium,” revere Mussolini, and openly display the “Roman salute” - a gesture equivalent to the Hitler salute in Germany. In 2019, Hohm publicly declared on Facebook his “programmatic closeness” to several right-wing fraternities.

He also appears in a report by the domestic intelligence agency due to his closeness to the New Right magazine “Arcadi.” Later that same year, he resigned from a party position after renewed public criticism of his contacts with neo-fascists. Hohm continued on this path in 2021: In December, he marched at the front of a demonstration in Cottbus, where the front block consisted of masked neo-Nazis.
