While the Trump administration is openly considering sending in the National Guard to officially "combat crime," one thing remains remarkably constant: the complete lack of clarity about what is actually planned. City leadership is in the dark. Neither the mayor's office nor the police have clear information about what powers the National Guard would receive or to what extent it would be deployed in Chicago. "We do not want to raise any fears," Police Superintendent Larry Snelling said on Thursday. But his simultaneous appeal to Washington to finally provide transparency makes clear how tense the situation is.
Behind the scenes, three scenarios are taking shape: more immigration arrests, a particular focus on homeless encampments, and increased patrols on the streets. For many civil rights groups, it is clear that this is less about fighting crime than about intensifying migration policy. The city is trying to counteract. In recent days, employees distributed know-your-rights cards in neighborhoods with large immigrant populations - small handouts that explain what to do in case of an encounter with immigration agents. What once seemed like a legal precaution has long since become vital for many families.
At the same time, indications mounted on Thursday that the plans are already far more concrete than they appear on the surface. Just minutes ago it was revealed that the Trump administration has asked a military base near Chicago for support on immigration operations. This means it is no longer just a theoretical option - the National Guard could soon be physically present on Chicago’s streets. Chicago thus finds itself in a situation that leaves even the city’s most experienced politicians speechless: a metropolis in a state of emergency, bracing for a scenario whose contours no one knows. The fear that Snelling did not want to stoke has long since taken hold in the neighborhoods - among the homeless camps, in immigrant families, in the schools. And it is fueled by the question of whether Chicago will soon become a testing ground for a government that has discovered the military as a domestic political tool.

Angst verbreiten, alles schön ins Narrativ Sicherheit verpackt.
MAGA jubelt und fragt Kritiker, warum sie denn bicht mehr Sicherheit wollen, ob Ihnen das Leben von Amerikanern nicht wichtig ist.
Am Traurigsten ist aber, dass die Nationalgarde brav mit macht.
Ihren Eid haben sie auf die Verfassung geschworen.
Nicht auf ihren Vorgesetzten, nicht auf die Regierung, nicht auf Trump.
Ich hoffe, dass die Anwälte schon heißlaufen um zu klagen, sobald der erste Nationalgardist die Strassen der Stadt betritt.
Ich weiß, dass das Trump erstmal nicht aufhalten.
Aber vielleicht gibt es Menschen auch bei der Nationalgarde, Mut sich zu wehren und sich bicht an Aktiknen gegen die Verfassung zu beteiligen.
Es ist kaum Auszuhalten, wie schnell das Netzwerk mit Trump als Ablenkungsclown die USA in einen faschistischen Autokratenstaat verwandelt hat.
Und Europa und der Rest der „westlichen Welt“ tut immer noch so, als wenn Trump ein normaler amerikanischer Präsident ist.
Nicht ein faschistischen dementer Irrer.

Oh, sie sehen. Und zumindest wir haben ja gerade eine Regierung, die offen mit dem Faschismus liebäugelt, die eher neidisch in die USA schaut, wie mächtig die Regierung ist und wie die Mächtigen noch besser in die eigene Tasche wirtschaften. Wenn ich dann lese, warum denn in der USA niemand auf die Straße geht… abgesehen davon, dass das so nicht stimmt, frag ich mich warum hier niemand auf die Straße geht, noch könnten zumindest wir noch was ändern, zumindest wenn wir Traktoren mitnehmen, wäre es auch noch in Nachrichtensendungen. Und unsere Gesundheit ist dabei noch nicht gefährdet.
