The Man Outside Mar a Lago - Radicalization in the Shadow of the Epstein Files!

“I am glad it means something to you.”

Sunday, February 15 • 8:18 a.m.

“I do not know whether you have looked into the Epstein files, but evil is real and clearly recognizable.

The best thing people like you and I can do is use the small amount of influence we have. Tell others what you hear about the Epstein files and what the government is doing with them. Create awareness.”

9:06 a.m.

“Hey! Where are you?”

The armed man who was shot and killed by Secret Service personnel outside Mar a Lago had, according to people around him, recently become intensely fixated on the so called Epstein files. Austin Tucker Martin is said to have immersed himself more and more deeply in the subject after the latest release of documents. In a text message on February 15, 2026, he wrote to a colleague that evil was real and clearly recognizable, and that others needed to be informed about the files and the government’s conduct. He called for creating awareness and using whatever influence one had, however small.

Colleagues at the Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in North Carolina reported that Martin repeatedly spoke of an alleged cover up scandal and of powerful individuals getting away unpunished. At the same time, he was considered a supporter of Donald Trump, which further politicizes the case without explaining the act itself. Whether his beliefs were directly connected to the armed intrusion into the secured area is the subject of the investigation. What is clear is that personal fixation, mistrust of state institutions, and a highly emotionalized topic had converged in his thinking before the situation outside Mar a Lago ended fatally. It is tragic that a young person in these turbulent times lost his footing and that his life ended in an escalation that gives nothing back to anyone and leaves only emptiness. We call this modern times. Whether we are wrong.

A Clear No from Nuuk

Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen has clearly rejected Donald Trump’s proposal to send a US hospital ship to Greenland. The idea was acknowledged, he said, but there is a public health care system in which treatment for citizens is free of charge. That is a deliberate decision and a fundamental part of their society. In the United States it works differently, where even a visit to the doctor costs money.

At the same time, Nielsen emphasized openness to dialogue and cooperation, including with the United States. The prerequisite, however, is respect. Decisions about Greenland are made in Greenland. Anyone seeking cooperation must talk instead of making announcements on social media. The message from Nuuk is clear: assistance is not organized through headlines, but through conversations on equal footing.

Paris Summons the US Ambassador

Charles Kushner

France will summon US Ambassador Charles Kushner. The occasion is statements from Washington regarding the death of the far right activist Quentin Deranque, who died in Lyon after a fight as a result of severe head injuries. The US State Department said reports of involvement by left wing militants should concern everyone and referred to an increasingly violent radical left. The attack occurred on the sidelines of a student event where left wing lawmaker Rima Hassan was speaking. Deranque’s death has further intensified the already tense political climate ahead of the upcoming presidential election. Around 3,000 people took part in a memorial march organized by far right groups in Lyon. President Emmanuel Macron called for restraint.

Foreign Minister Jean Noël Barrot rejected any political instrumentalization of the crime. France does not need lectures from an international reactionary movement, he said. Seven people were provisionally charged, including six for intentional homicide, aggravated assault, and criminal association. The seventh suspect faces charges of aiding and abetting. Barrot announced that at the meeting with Kushner he would also address other disputes, including US sanctions against former EU Commissioner Thierry Breton and French judge at the International Criminal Court Nicolas Guillou. He described both measures as unfounded. Kushner had already been summoned last year over a letter to Macron, but did not appear in person at that time.

Brussels Demands Reliability

After the Supreme Court ruling against key tariffs of the Trump administration, the European Commission is demanding clarity from Washington. An agreement is an agreement, officials in Brussels say. The United States is expected to honor its commitments from the joint declaration of August 2025, just as the EU stands by its obligations. At the same time, Donald Trump announced he wants to enforce a global tariff rate of 15 percent. The trade agreement concluded last year provides for a 15 percent import tariff on 70 percent of European exports to the US. Annual trade volume between the two sides amounted to about 1.7 trillion euros in 2024. Pharmaceuticals, cars, aircraft, and chemical products are among Europe’s most important exports, while from the US come energy, payment system and cloud infrastructure services, as well as aerospace products.

In the European Parliament, voices are growing to suspend ratification of the deal for the time being. There is talk of tariff chaos and growing uncertainty for companies on both sides of the Atlantic. From Washington, however, it is said that the agreements are not up for renegotiation. The responsible US trade negotiator emphasized that no one had signaled to him that the agreement was void. Brussels at the same time points to its Anti Coercion Instrument, which allows trade and investment restrictions if a partner exerts impermissible pressure. It is a sign that the EU is not only asking for clarity, but also has instruments to respond to sustained unpredictability.

Death Penalty for Abortion? Proposal in Tennessee

Mark Pody left and Jody Barrett right

Two Republican lawmakers in the US state of Tennessee want to radically tighten criminal penalties for abortions. An amendment to House Bill 570 and Senate Bill 738 provides for charging women who obtain an abortion with “fetal homicide.” That would subject them to the same sentencing ranges as for homicide. Possible penalties include life imprisonment, life without parole, or in certain cases even the death penalty. The proposal comes from Jody Barrett of Dickson and Mark Pody of Lebanon. The bill was referred to the House Population Health Subcommittee and is not currently on the agenda. A vote on the introduced amendment has not yet taken place. If pursued in this form, the text would extend criminal prosecution not only to medical personnel, but explicitly to the women affected. In a state with already strict abortion rules, this would elevate the debate over reproductive rights to a new legal level. Whether the proposal will find political majorities remains open, but its very existence intensifies the conflict over abortion law and criminal law in the United States.

It is once again a perfect example, similar attempts were made in South Carolina, of how some male politicians seek to exercise control over women’s bodies without understanding the medical, personal, or ethical complexities of pregnancy and abortion. The fact that such bills are introduced at all shows how far the ideological battle over reproductive rights in the United States has already gone - and how little consideration is given to the reality of women’s lives.

A reminder of April 3, 2025: After a major public fight, numerous grassroots initiatives, and well over 400,000 signatures, the proposal ultimately failed in November 2025. The same kind of resistance is likely to emerge again, although the effort itself will have little chance of succeeding.

The Moral Noose – How Six Republican Men in South Carolina Want the Death Penalty for Abortion

Missiles Before the Anniversary

Shortly before the fourth anniversary of the full scale invasion, Russia again launched massive attacks against Ukraine. Hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles struck primarily energy infrastructure in Kyiv as well as in central and southwestern regions. In the capital, a 49 year old man was killed, and at least 15 people were injured, including several children. The Ukrainian Air Force reported intercepting the majority of the projectiles. The attacks followed only hours after new talks in Geneva, mediated by the United States, ended without tangible results. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the American negotiators had recognized that Moscow had so far allowed no serious progress. While another round of talks is being discussed for early March, attacks on power grids continue. This winter, the coldest in more than a decade, many regions at times had electricity and heating for only a few hours a day.

In Lviv, explosions occurred during the night in which a 23 year old police officer was killed and numerous people were injured. Whether Russia is behind it has not yet been clarified. A woman was arrested. Prosecutors are investigating for intentional homicide. Ukrainian authorities have long pointed to alleged recruitment attempts by Russian intelligence services, which are said to recruit Ukrainians online for acts of sabotage.

Health Advice via Grok

On the new website realfood.gov, the US government relies on the chatbot Grok to answer questions about nutrition and health. The aim is to raise awareness about the risks of highly processed foods and to encourage more fruits and vegetables on plates. Users can ask in the chat field for recipe ideas for families on a tight budget or request guidance on nutrition for autoimmune diseases. But initial tests reveal significant weaknesses. When confronted with provocative or obviously risky requests, Grok did not respond with a clear refusal, but with detailed instructions. In one case, the bot provided recommendations on how certain foods could be prepared for a practice that poses health risks.

It also provided concrete statements about the alleged nutrient density of human organs in response to questions about cannibalism. Such answers raise questions about safety mechanisms.

In addition, there is another contradiction: when asked about Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Grok stated that he is not a reliable source for health questions and instead referred to scientific institutions such as Harvard and the Healthy Eating Plate. We conducted these tests as well for the German speaking area. The state integrated chatbot thus indirectly contradicts its own minister. Between political messaging, public health education, and technical oversight, a field of tension emerges that demands more clarity than a chat window at the bottom of a screen can provide.

Ladies and Gentlemen … the FBI Director

We wish all readers a successful start to the week.

Dear readers,
We do not report from a distance, but on the ground. Where decisions impact people and history is made. We document what would otherwise disappear and give those affected a voice.
Our work does not end with writing. We provide concrete help to people and advocate for the enforcement of human rights and international law – against abuses of power and right wing populist politics. We do not look away, because looking away always benefits the wrong side.
We fund our work without a publisher, without institutional backing, and without a subscription model. Your support keeps it independent.

Grok, ausgerechnet Grok.

Genau mein Humor 🤬

Was derzeit in den tiefroten US Bundesstaaten abgeht, ist unglaublich.

Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, South Carolina …

The Handmaid Tale – welcome in Gilhead.

Der „gute alte Drahtbügel“ wird eine Renaissance erleben 😞

Danke, dass ihr auch solche Themen ans Licht bringt.
