More than 1,600 patients reported eating at Taco Bell shortly before becoming sick. Ninety-four of them were hospitalized. At the same time, officials emphasize that not every Taco Bell location received the contaminated lettuce. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional restaurants or retailers could still be added to the list. According to investigators, the lettuce came from a single grower in Mexico. U.S. food safety authorities have strengthened inspections at the border, while Taco Bell says it has voluntarily removed potentially contaminated lettuce from affected regions.

One supplier's name has become particularly significant because it has been mentioned repeatedly in multiple reports. Taylor Farms is one of the largest producers of fresh lettuce and vegetables in the United States, supplying not only Taco Bell but also retailers including Walmart, Whole Foods, and Target. The company was previously linked to a Cyclospora outbreak in 2013. In 2024, it again came under scrutiny after contaminated onions were investigated during an E. coli outbreak involving McDonald's. Cyclospora spreads through food or water contaminated with human waste. Severe watery diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea, loss of appetite, and weight loss are among the most common symptoms. Without antibiotics, the illness can last for weeks. At the same time, budget cuts across America's public health system are making it harder to identify the source. Thousands of patients must be interviewed individually while investigators reconstruct entire supply chains. The largest numbers of vulnerable cameras were found in Italy with roughly 12,600 devices, followed by France with 8,900 and Spain with 8,600. Poland also stands out. Analysts identified at least 4,250 vulnerable cameras there. The country serves as one of the primary logistics hubs for Western military aid heading to Ukraine. The actual number is almost certainly higher. The analysis only included systems that were openly accessible and could be clearly identified. Devices compromised through stolen credentials or unknown vulnerabilities were not included. Just days ago, the European Union imposed sanctions on several individuals and organizations over Russian cyberattacks. The accusation is that cameras and other internet-connected devices have been deliberately used to spy on military transports and critical infrastructure throughout Europe. Nothing, however, is actually changing.
