Canada’s breaking point – Carney declares the era of closeness with the United States over!
Prime Minister Mark Carney said in a remarkably clear statement that the decades-long process of an ever-closer economic bond with the United States was over. A sentence like a cold cut - and a sign of how far Ottawa now feels from Washington. Tensions over tariffs, energy policy, and the growing dependence on US markets have visibly changed Canada. Carney’s words stand for a course that is no longer defined by closeness but by caution. It is a farewell without grand gestures but with clear intent: Canada is repositioning itself because the US is no longer a reliable partner.
A country searching for new paths - and letting go of old habits – This declaration marks not only the end of an economic project but also the end of a long-established mindset. For decades, the US was considered the first point of contact, the natural ally, the economic safeguard. Now a prime minister openly says what many in the country have long thought: anyone who relies on Washington in the long run risks being left standing alone. Canada is beginning quietly but decisively to secure its future more broadly - and to leave behind a time in which American unpredictability could shake entire industries.
Four hours of hope - and a plan that is becoming harder to carry

Marco Rubio said after the meeting in Florida that the talks had been “productive”. But the closer you look, the clearer it becomes how shameful all of it is. While US representatives, Witkoff and Kushner, work with the Ukrainian delegation on a possible way out, rockets hit Kyiv again, people die, homes burn. The Ukrainian security council publicly thanked the US, but behind the scenes everyone knows how narrow the space has become. The earlier 28-point plan remains like a weight on every conversation: limited army, no NATO membership, elections in one hundred days. And above all stands the question of which concessions Moscow will be able to force in the end.
Negotiations in a shelter - while the war outside continues – Trump’s envoy Witkoff is now supposed to travel to Putin, perhaps accompanied by Kushner. Both come from a world in which a deal is a question of price. But while they negotiate, drones and missiles fly over Ukraine almost daily. In Vyshhorod, people died again, including children. Selenskyj spoke of over a thousand attack drones in just one week. At the same time, Kazakhstan warns Kyiv after an attack on an oil depot on the Black Sea. A conflict that already affects more countries than anybody wants to admit. And still, for Ukraine, the only hope is that peace is possible - one that does not come at the cost of its future.
America’s Quiet Wish List

In many American cities this winter, those quiet gestures of protest are reappearing that say more than any mass rally shout. A man stands in front of a store, holding up a simple sign and writing what millions are thinking: Santa, bring me a new president. No anger, no shouting, just the tired humor of a country exhausted by chaos, punitive missions, and the never-ending self staging in the White House. The scene looks like a snapshot from a political cold wave: an individual who expresses more than entire party conventions. It is the laconic style of a society that knows that change does not always begin loudly. Sometimes a piece of cardboard, a marker, and the stubborn refusal to accept a reality that has long since become a burden are enough.
The Republican Bacon accuses the White House of lacking clarity on Ukraine

Republican Representative Don Bacon sharply criticizes the administration. In his view, the White House is sending mixed signals about the talks with Russia while people in Kyiv continue to die. He says there is no clear, firm stance and that the US line changes by the day. For Bacon, it looks as if the administration promises support one moment and weakens it the next. This vagueness harms the Ukrainians and benefits only the Kremlin, which exploits every weakness immediately. The criticism is unusually direct - especially because it comes from within the president’s own party.
The AfD climbs again - and the firewall keeps crumbling

The AfD once again gains in the polls and reaches its October record of 27 percent according to the Sunday trend by Insa for “Bild am Sonntag”. CDU and CSU remain at 25 percent, the SPD stagnates at 15 percent. The Greens reach eleven percent, the Left Party ten percent. Remarkable is the share of smaller parties as well: twelve percent of the vote would currently go to groups below the five percent threshold. Insa chief Hermann Binkert says that parliamentary majorities would already be possible starting at 44 percent - which further tightens the political situation. Many eyes now turn to the upcoming Forsa poll, which should show whether the trend solidifies or whether the landscape remains volatile.
An interview that reveals more about character and mind than intended
When asked why he wanted to pardon a well-known drug boss even though he constantly promises to “keep drugs out of the USA”, Donald Trump first dodged. “I don’t know who you’re talking about,” he said. But when the reporter mentioned the name Juan Orlando Hernández, Trump changed course. Suddenly he spoke of an alleged “setup by Biden” that many people in Honduras supposedly believed. When asked for evidence, nothing concrete followed. Only the claim that you cannot imprison a president just because drugs are sold in his country.
A trip through excuses - and a look into Trump’s understanding of responsibility, or something more? – The short exchange shows again how quickly Trump shifts direction as soon as a name is mentioned that makes him uncomfortable. Instead of answers, there were evasions, instead of facts, assertions. That a convicted ex-president who cooperated with cartels is suddenly portrayed as a victim says more about Trump than about Hernández. It is the familiar pattern: loyalty before rule of law, storyline before reality. And in the end, a simple question remains open - why does a man who claims to show toughness always soften when it comes to authoritarians or allies within his own networks?
Maduro looks desperate - but his power apparatus holds tighter than ever

Nicolás Maduro suddenly sings in English, calls “No War, Yes Peace”, and dances to his own remix slogans. A president who rejected Anglicisms for years now uses them while the US openly discusses possible military strikes. For Venezuelan opposition figures, this is a sign of weakness, but his system remains solid. Loyalty is rewarded, doubt is harshly punished. Those who follow him can do business - oil, drugs, wildlife trade, anything tolerated as long as it serves the regime. Prison and torture, on the other hand, target those who refuse. His network of military officers, ministers, and judges benefits too much to let him fall.

Growing pressure from Washington - and a regime closing ranks – Trump doubled the bounty on Maduro to 50 million dollars and labeled the network around him a terrorist organization. At the same time, the US military blows up suspected drug boats and kills dozens of people. But instead of creating fractures, the pressure strengthens unity. Maduro’s pilot refused a US offer for extradition. In Caracas, government officials swore on Bolívar’s sword to defend themselves. Millions of Venezuelans suffer from poverty and migration, but a hardened core clings to Maduro because they see him as the last guarantor of their own power.
Lukashenko’s trail vanishes in Oman - and no one knows why
Since his arrival in Oman on November 28, there has been no public sign of Alexander Lukashenko. State media in Belarus are silent, and the authorities in Muscat are as well. What is known is that the Belarusian ruler traveled from Myanmar to Oman. There is no official information about the purpose, schedule, or any meetings. What can be said is that nothing so far suggests a state visit. There was no honor guard at the airport, no representatives of the Omani government, and no protocol indicating an official reception. The host country’s media have also reported no meetings with high-ranking officials. For an official visit this silence is unusual – for a private stay, however, it is typical.
It remains unclear why Lukashenko has been absent from public view for three days. His circle provides no indication of what he is doing in Oman or whom he is meeting. Observers note that the autocrat’s private trips to the Gulf states occur repeatedly, often with little transparency. This situation, however, stands out because of the complete lack of information. Whether it is a purely private stay, political talks, or health-related reasons – none of that is known. The only certainty is this: a president who usually never misses a camera has suddenly vanished. And neither Minsk nor Muscat offer an explanation why.
Don Jr defends Carlson and Fuentes - and calls criticism “conflicts of the Neocons”
Donald Trump Jr refuses to condemn Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes. For him, this is “not his way”, he does not believe in silencing people. He said they should be allowed to speak, he is “a good friend of Tucker Carlson” and finds him “not radical at all”. The attacks, he claims, come from those who have fueled every conflict for years - “Neocons”, as he calls them. While even Republicans warn of Fuentes’ openly antisemitic ideology, Trump Jr stands firmly by both men. An appearance that shows how far parts of the party have drifted from any boundaries - and how willingly they defend those who despise democracy.
