The university, he claimed, is \u201ca liberal mess,\u201d and its international students \u201cwant to tear our country apart.\u201d These are the words of a man who no longer struggles for truth, but is in free fall into his own self-mythologizing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump rages, because it was a day of rulings. Not his, but the courts\u2019. He was, as the legal phrasing goes, \u201cspanked.\u201d The law spoke \u2014 against him, against his decrees, against his will to absolute power. It is a nearly unprecedented moment in American history for a president to fail in so many federal courts on a single day. A storm like this leaves marks \u2014 even in words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBoeing should default China for not taking the beautifully finished planes it committed to purchase,\u201d Trump shouts to the world. \u201cThis is just a small example of what China has done to the USA for years\u2026\u201d And then: \u201cFentanyl continues to pour into our country from China, through Mexico and Canada, killing hundreds of thousands of our people \u2014 and it better stop, NOW!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yet while Trump speaks of ongoing exchanges with China, the Chinese government denies any contact. Once again, the president is left alone with his words \u2014 and the world watches as the final chapter of a project is written that was never a democratic one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRupert Murdoch has told me for years that he is going to get rid of his Trump-hating fake pollster at Fox News \u2014 but he has never done it.\u201d That sentence, too, is spoken on that day. It is the monologue of a man who no longer feels understood \u2014 not by the media, not by the polls, not even by his own party. A man who no longer plays by the rules because he believes they were made to work against him. Who sinks deeper into a narrative of defeat, in which he alone stands on a field of honor, surrounded by enemies, by \u201cChina-loving newspapers,\u201d \u201clying pollsters,\u201d and universities that \u201cspew fake ANGER AND HATE.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLater today I will be meeting with \u2014 of all people \u2014 Jeffrey Goldberg, the Editor of The Atlantic,\u201d he continues. \u201cThe man responsible for many fictional stories about me, including the HOAX on \u2018Suckers and Losers\u2019 and \u2018SignalGate\u2019\u2026\u201d Trump announces an interview \u2014 a test, as he puts it, \u201cto see if The Atlantic is capable of telling the truth.\u201d The title of the article, according to Trump\u2019s representatives? \u201cThe Most Consequential President of this Century.\u201d A mockery \u2014 or the last hope of a man who already knows that his place in history will not be written as a reformer, but as a destroyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And yet Trump insists: \u201cWhat can be so bad \u2014 I WON!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Won? His poll numbers are in free fall. The streets are preparing. On May 1st, Labor Day, the United States will tremble \u2014 peacefully, but unmistakably. Because what remains is the shudder of a nation brushed by fascism \u2014 not in uniform, but in tailored suits, through executive orders instead of decrees, through tweets instead of commands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump is not a noble president of the United States. He is the author of his own moral decline. And this commentary is not an accusation \u2014 but a testament to the decay of a man who could have served \u2014 and instead chose to rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
