She set the tone herself. The government, she said, consisted of \u201cidiots,\u201d and because of its firewall against the AfD, the CDU would \u201cnever win another federal election.\u201d Contempt at the top, simplification for everyone else. That kind of grammar fills halls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She labeled the euro an \u201cunstable currency\u201d and a \u201csoft currency\u201d; Germany, she said, had been \u201cmuch better off\u201d before the common currency, and she saw a \u201cbroad impoverishment of working sections of the population.\u201d The numbers say otherwise. Germany\u2019s Finance Ministry puts average German inflation since euro cash was introduced at around 1.9 percent a year. The European Central Bank ranks the euro as the world\u2019s second most important currency; its share of key international indicators rose to around 20 percent in 2025, and euro-denominated debt issuance hit a record. At times, the currency even behaved like a safe haven. Nobody denies the price surge from 2021 to 2023, but a fever is not yet death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n More serious is the announced exit, because there is no procedure for it at all. Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union governs withdrawal from the Union as a whole; the treaties provide no route for leaving only the currency. Such a move would require fundamental treaty changes and the conversion of everything denominated in euros, from bank deposits to government debt; a new Deutsche Mark would face upward pressure, poison for a country that lives off exports. Then there is Weidel versus Weidel. On February 3, 2025, she said it was \u201cfar too late\u201d to leave the euro; on August 23, 2026, it was once again a government project. A somersault in 18 months, without a single comma in the law having changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis treaty will be terminated,\u201d she said about Schengen, as though Europe hung on the stroke of a pen. Schengen has long been part of EU law. In the event of a serious threat, Germany may temporarily conduct checks at its internal borders and already does so, registered from March 16 through September 15, 2026; the European Commission has warned that such controls must remain justified and proportionate. A permanent sealing of the borders would be something else entirely and would run up against the Schengen Borders Code. Her own example collapses most beautifully: she wants to keep out people \u201clike those from Ceuta,\u201d except Ceuta lies outside the regular Schengen system, and after the latest rush there is not a single known case of those people reaching Germany. She is announcing a dam against a flood that does not exist on her map.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Reality hits hardest when it comes to the 1.3 million Syrians who are supposedly all to be sent back. Before that, she complained about too much illegal immigration and \u201cno legal certainty anymore,\u201d saying Germany needed to deport more people and naturalize fewer. At the end of 2025, 936,285 people with Syrian citizenship were living in the country; in 2025 alone, 65,600 of them were naturalized, 669,000 were registered as people seeking protection, and 125,940 were born here. Those who were naturalized are Germans and cannot simply be \u201csent back,\u201d and no government can deport people with protection status as a group either, because every case is subject to law and review. The impressive number only appears once those who have long since become German citizens are counted in. When asked the one question that matters, how an AfD government intended to negotiate return agreements with Syria or Afghanistan, Weidel had nothing and switched to prevention and borders. This is exactly where the poster ends and governing begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Her arithmetic does not hold up elsewhere either. The \u201c306,000 unemployed people\u201d who were supposedly naturalized are people who were unemployed in December 2025 and had received German citizenship at some point before then, some of them decades earlier; only 332,500 people in total were naturalized in 2025. A fact-check explicitly called the claim misleading. A snapshot is turned into a scandal by bending the timeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On climate, a truism is turned into a false conclusion. Weidel says climate change has always existed and countermeasures are unnecessary. The combustion-engine ban should also go, while the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the IPCC, considers the dominant human contribution to today\u2019s warming unequivocal. Tino Chrupalla spoke of a \u201ccompletely normal summer\u201d and accused the federal government of \u201cscaremongering.\u201d June 2026, with an average temperature of 19.5 degrees Celsius, was the second-hottest June since records began, and June and July together were hotter in Western Europe than ever before in that series. Since March, rainfall has remained below average almost everywhere, contrary to his talk about long rainy periods. The weather of one summer does not disprove a trend, unless you want it to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With mail-in voting, the method becomes textbook. Chrupalla claimed that in nursing homes people\u2019s \u201cpens are being guided.\u201d He said he could name cases, but did not, and could not verify them either, yet they were supposedly \u201cundisputed.\u201d First the suspicion, then the sweeping claim about the entire system. The demand to abolish it comes afterward, while the evidence remains a blank. Nobody denies that individual cases of manipulation exist, and one fact-check even lists them, but that does not make them a system. Germany\u2019s Federal Returning Officer points to blocks in the voter register and the public counting of ballots, while the Federal Constitutional Court ruled mail-in voting constitutional in 2013. His excuse that he could not report the cases because he had not been there himself does not survive Section 158 of the German Code of Criminal Procedure, which does not require an eyewitness. The German Professional Association for Nursing Professions had already rejected an almost identical accusation by AfD politician Ulrich Siegmund as an unsubstantiated allegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The rest of his numbers fall apart too. Little remains of the \u201c280,000 who should be deported\u201d: as of June 30, 2026, 258,845 people were legally required to leave the country, 199,271 of them were tolerated, meaning their deportation had been suspended for legal or practical reasons. The roughly 930,000 people whose asylum applications had been rejected at some point were likewise not automatically required to leave, because Germany\u2019s Central Register of Foreigners does not delete old rejections. The \u201cgovernment spending ratio,\u201d which he invoked in an argument about too many civil servants, refers to the share of all government spending in gross domestic product, not the number of civil servants; in 2024 it stood at 49.5 percent, putting Germany in the European middle range, while the share of civil servants among public-sector employees fell from 39.6 percent in 2015 to 36.4 percent in 2024. Using terms he does not understand, he describes a state that does not exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Donald Trump provides the model for this. For years he has spread disproven claims about mass fraud in mail-in voting; on August 22, 2026, there was reporting on new restrictions he had pushed for, while his story about massive fraud in the 2020 election remains false. More awkwardly still, on August 13, 2026, Trump himself voted by mail in Florida\u2019s Republican primary. Chrupalla\u2019s technique is almost identical. Individual stories become a lever to undermine trust in the entire process before the demand comes to restrict it. Several reports boiled his appearance down to one line: Chrupalla is doing Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The whole thing follows a sales trick. The great overhaul comes dressed in the queen\u2019s clothes, with distrust of institutions thrown in for free. Migration has to serve as the explanation for every grievance. As soon as someone asks about the transition, about treaties and evidence, the answers get thin. Big promises, little backing, that is the handwriting this party shares with Trump\u2019s movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The sharpest contradiction lies in its economic doctrine. Weidel demands \u201cno interference in the market\u201d and \u201cno policy of bans,\u201d while in the same breath demanding a state-imposed currency change and permanent barriers at the borders of the most important market for German companies. Hardly any government in decades has dared to reach deeper into capital flows and trade. When Elon Musk appeared by video at an AfD event in January 2025, Weidel shouted \u201cMake Germany great again.\u201d More and more of our reporting shows just how deep this problem now runs. The Financial Times also wrote on August 19, 2026, in its analysis \u201cThe German far right\u2019s MAGA problem\u201d about the \u201cMAGA problem\u201d of the German right: similar enemy images on migration and in the culture wars, while Trump\u2019s foreign policy is tearing the party apart at the same time. The AfD is not a copy of the Republicans. But the borrowed language of a bygone era and the fraud rhetoric are documented, and neither has a single answer the morning after for how any of this is actually supposed to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We know this kind of \u201cpolitics\u201d all too well, and it is extremely dangerous. But hate and completely over-the-top posts or videos do not get us anywhere - quite often, they do the exact opposite. That is why you should check such posts for substance and truth before accepting anything as a given - even when it sounds good and fits your own view. The road is long, but it runs through facts, solid reporting, well-organized creative resistance and the courts. Every election lie is a direct attack on the citizen. And that is exactly where the weakness of this politics lies: in what it despises - the Basic Law, the Constitution and the rights of the people protected by them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tomorrow, the Kaizen Blog once again heads into rough terrain, between those who spread conspiracies everywhere and the right-wing hate that cashes in on every fear.
