Trump Makes Another Attempt to Restrict Birthright Citizenship<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Just a few weeks after his defeat before the Supreme Court, Donald Trump is once again trying to restrict birthright citizenship in the United States. With two new executive orders, the White House wants to limit automatic citizenship for certain groups of newborns while also taking tougher action against so-called birth tourism. The first order is considerably narrower than Trump\u2019s failed attempt at the beginning of the year. Instead of attacking birthright citizenship across the board, it now targets specific categories of cases. Those affected would include children of people with ties to foreign embassies or international organizations, people classified as enemy aliens, as well as cases in which parents are alleged to have obtained citizenship through fraud. At the same time, the second order is intended to prevent visitors from deliberately traveling to the United States on a visa in order to give birth to a child with American citizenship. For the first time in generations, an American president is once again trying to treat children differently depending on the origin and legal status of their parents. This is no longer ordinary immigration policy, but racism in its purest form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump made no secret of the fact that the new measures are a response to his defeat before the Supreme Court. He had believed he would win there, the president said. But the ruling had been unfair, so his administration would now take a different route. Trump said he was convinced that the new orders would this time be compatible with the Constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether this attempt will hold up, however, remains open. Only in June, the Supreme Court rejected Trump\u2019s earlier order that would have stripped automatic citizenship from children of people without permanent legal status. Several federal courts had already blocked the rule before that, so it never took effect. Civil rights organizations therefore expect the new attempt to fail as well. The American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU, said immediately after the orders were issued that birthright citizenship is protected by the Constitution and cannot be rewritten by executive order. That means the next battle in federal court is probably only a matter of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

YouTube Deletes Channels of Far-Right \u201cRussian Community\u201d - More Than 1.2 Million Subscribers Affected<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

YouTube has deleted both the main channel and the backup channel of the far-right nationalist organization \u201cRussian Community.\u201d According to the movement\u2019s coordinator, Andrei Tkachuk, the main channel had more than 1.2 million subscribers, while the backup channel had another 50,000. YouTube reportedly justified the suspension under its rules against supporting and promoting extremist and criminal organizations. Tkachuk, however, immediately called the decision political and claimed that YouTube was not fighting extremists or criminals, but Russians who wanted a strong Russia modeled on the former Russian Empire. According to his account, the suspension was driven by \u201cRussophobic Anglo-Saxons\u201d who were trying to \u201cstrangle the Russian people.\u201d The organization argues that it has not been classified as extremist or criminal by either Russian or international courts. But such a court ruling is not required for a suspension on YouTube. The platform also bans content that incites acts of violence against individuals or groups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cRussian Community\u201d was founded in 2021 and became known above all for its actions against migrants. Members of the movement organize raids, use violence and report people to the authorities when they object to them because of their ethnic background. At the same time, the organization runs campaigns against abortion and reports events that, in its view, do not conform to so-called \u201ctraditional values.\u201d Particularly explosive are the group\u2019s own statements about contacts with Russia\u2019s security apparatus. Pavel Omelnitsky from the Yaroslavl branch said as early as June 2024 in an interview with the BBC Russian Service that operations were coordinated with the FSB and the Investigative Committee. The organization has also been linked to the FSB within Russian security circles. According to those accounts, its actions are not only coordinated with police, but members may also carry out tasks for security agencies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also indications that the \u201cRussian Community\u201d was built from the beginning under FSB supervision. So YouTube\u2019s deletion does not hit some small nationalist channel, but an organization with more than a million viewers, street actions against migrants and openly described ties to Russian security agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
