In many cases, they would no longer need the approval of affected states or tribal governments. Critics warn that the changes would make it much easier to disturb Native American burial grounds, historic downtown districts and protected landscapes. For Trump, the timing could hardly be better. His planned 250 foot triumph arch near Arlington National Cemetery is currently tied up in the very review process his administration now wants to weaken. Officials have repeatedly complained that the existing system is too slow and too burdensome, arguing that agencies get trapped in endless consultations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Historic preservation groups see something very different. The National Trust for Historic Preservation accuses the administration of gutting protections for historic places in order to fast track political vanity projects. Spain is battling multiple major wildfires at the same time. More than 80,000 people west of Madrid have either been evacuated or told to remain indoors because of heavy smoke and ash. Slightly cooler temperatures over the weekend may give firefighters a narrow opportunity to gain ground, but dry thunderstorms and strong winds could push the fires out of control again at any moment. The disaster is now affecting far more than the immediate fire zones. France ordered the complete evacuation of the Cap Ferret peninsula along the Atlantic coast, forcing tens of thousands of vacationers to flee by car and boat. FBI Special Agent David McNeilly later wrote in an application for a search warrant that the packaging and appearance of the substance were consistent with methamphetamine. That suspicion became the basis for probable cause, allowing federal investigators to search the vehicle for additional evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is now clear that the suspicion did not survive laboratory testing. The Harris County District Attorney's Office announced that every sample tested negative for narcotics and any other illegal drugs. Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare said Salgado Araujo's family had been notified of the results and added that his office would not comment further while the investigation remains ongoing. According to the family, the white substance was nothing more than electrolyte salt that construction workers mix into drinking water to replace minerals lost during long hours in the brutal Texas heat. Their attorney, Ruby Powers, accuses authorities of deliberately casting Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in a negative light after his death. She argues that the drug allegation was used to discredit both the victim and the eyewitnesses while distracting attention from the central question of why the shooting happened in the first place. Major contradictions also remain over what actually happened during the shooting itself.
