Donald Trump had promised the evening would deliver the proof. Speaking from the White House, he unveiled newly declassified government documents that he claimed would finally prove the 2020 presidential election had been manipulated. He spoke of Chinese interference, the so-called Deep State, and years of cover-ups. Expectations were high. But anyone who actually reads the documents finds exactly the opposite. The released reports contain no evidence that China or any other country manipulated vote counting or altered the election results. Many pages are heavily redacted, while others describe security concerns that have been publicly known and discussed by government agencies for years. The files contain no new evidence of election fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump also claimed China had obtained data on 220 million American voters. China collecting massive amounts of personal information has been known for years. Public voter registration files are part of that data and are legally bought and used by political parties and campaign organizations across the United States. The documents contain no indication that this information was ever used to manipulate the election. The same problem appears in Trump's claims about hundreds of thousands of non-citizens supposedly registered to vote. The documents claim large numbers of non-citizens appeared on voter rolls. What they do not contain is evidence that those individuals actually cast ballots. That would be the essential requirement for proving the large-scale election fraud Trump alleges. On top of that, the database used for these claims has long been criticized for errors, and a federal judge has already restricted its use because legitimate voters could be removed from voter rolls by mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another part of the documents is even more remarkable. While Trump has spent years attacking the U.S. intelligence community's assessment regarding Russia, the newly released files once again confirm that Russia actively tried to help Donald Trump and hurt Joe Biden during the 2020 election. The documents also state that China and Iran preferred to see Trump lose, but when it comes to actual interference with election systems, only Russia is identified. Ironically, Trump's own documents once again contradict one of the central claims he has repeated for years. In the end, very little remains of the promised bombshell. The files describe known weaknesses in election security, cyber threats, and internal government discussions. They do not provide evidence of the election fraud Trump has claimed for years. What was presented as an explosive revelation turned into another attempt to sell long-debunked allegations through old government files.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
