According to two regional diplomats, one Iranian demand in particular is currently creating massive tension in Washington: Tehran is reportedly demanding compensation for war damages. The reason for the nervousness is simple. Reparations are usually not paid by the side that won a war. That is precisely why Trump is allegedly trying to prevent the term from appearing in any official agreements or proposals at all. Because the wording alone could internationally look like an admission that the United States and its allies did not emerge from the conflict as clear military or political victors after all.

That suddenly gives the conflict a second dimension. For weeks Washington spoke about strength, deterrence and control. But the moment the discussion turns to money, damages and responsibility, the situation changes. Because then it is no longer only about military strikes or ceasefires, but about who ultimately has to carry the consequences of this war. At the same time, Pakistan is apparently trying to mediate between both sides. One of the diplomats stated that Islamabad is working on an agreement between the United States and Iran that would not only permanently end the fighting, but also allow direct talks to continue. The effort is reportedly being supported by several countries in the region.

According to the diplomat, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Army Chief Asim Munir are already in contact with both sides as well as additional governments. The goal is to stabilize the ceasefire and prepare personal talks for next week.

Ceasefire on Paper - But Washington and Beijing Are Sliding Deeper Into Economic War

Donald Trump speaks ahead of his trip to Beijing about “great deals” with China and claims America is now making huge amounts of money. The numbers tell a far colder story. China purchased nearly 50 billion dollars less in American goods last year than it did in 2022. At the same time, China’s share of total U.S. imports has collapsed dramatically since Trump’s first term. Instead of arriving directly from China, more and more products are now entering the United States through Vietnam, India and other Asian countries. Still, both sides are trying to create an impression of stability before the meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping. That is apparently what the summit is mainly about - not major breakthroughs, but preventing a complete collapse in relations. Behind the scenes, diplomats already expect the ceasefire in the trade war to be extended. China may purchase additional American soybeans, beef and Boeing aircraft. At the same time, Washington is working on a new joint trade platform between both governments so future conflicts do not immediately escalate again into punitive tariffs.

Because that is where the real problem lies. The tensions are not disappearing. They are merely shifting. While Trump continues talking mainly about trade deficits and tariffs, Beijing is already thinking far bigger. China is betting on electric vehicles, solar technology, artificial intelligence and the global restructuring of the energy system. The war against Iran is accelerating this development even further because rising oil prices make China’s green technology strategy more attractive. At the same time, conflicts are intensifying on several fronts. The United States continues trying to cut China off from the world’s most advanced computer chips. Beijing meanwhile controls large parts of the global extraction and processing of rare earth elements - precisely the raw materials required for electronics, batteries and modern weapons systems. Added to that are new American sanctions against Chinese companies over Iranian oil shipments as well as the dispute over the Panama Canal.

Legally, the situation is also becoming more complicated for Trump. Many of his punitive tariffs have already been struck down by courts. The Supreme Court ruled that Trump could not simply impose many of the earlier tariffs entirely on his own authority. His administration is now trying to use national security laws to push through additional tariffs anyway. The friendly images ahead of the summit therefore conceal the real situation. Behind the public appearances stand two countries that remain economically dependent on one another while increasingly openly fighting over who will control the next industrial and technological era. That is exactly why the trade peace between Washington and Beijing now looks less like a solution - and more like a pause between two escalations.

Trump Explains the Difference Between Sea and See to America

Donald Trump once again demonstrated during a public appearance why even many former supporters no longer know whether they are listening to a president or a nonstop infomercial without a script. The subject was originally drug smuggling. Trump wanted to explain that drugs enter the United States by sea. But then the president spent several minutes lost in an explanation of the English word “sea.”

“Drugs come over the sea, over the ocean, over the water,” Trump said. Then came the sentence now circulating worldwide: “A lot of people say: what do you mean by sea? Is that see? Like seeing? No, it’s sea. Ocean.”

The president of the United States was therefore seriously explaining to his audience the difference between two English words that sound the same. Not as a joke. Not ironically. But as though it were an important political clarification. And indeed: he means it seriously.

The scene appears especially absurd because Trump now produces moments like this almost daily. Press conferences regularly drift into comedy, self-conversations or bizarre digressions while international crises, wars and economic conflicts continue escalating in parallel. The White House generally tries to downplay such appearances. But these exact moments increasingly reinforce the impression of a president who more and more frequently loses the thread while continuing to speak with maximum self-confidence anyway.

The real problem is no longer the individual sentence itself. It is that this man governs what is probably the most important country in the world - a country that now resembles a ruin more than a superpower and is nevertheless being torn down further by him every single day.

Hidden for Decades - Looted Nazi Painting Reappears in Home of SS Family

More than eighty years after World War II, a painting stolen by the Nazis from Jewish owners has resurfaced in the Netherlands. The artwork was discovered inside the home of the granddaughter of a former Dutch Waffen-SS officer. The piece is the painting “Portrait of a Young Girl” by Dutch painter Toon Kelder. It once belonged to Jewish art collector Jacques Goudstikker, whose extensive collection was looted after he fled from the Nazis. Goudstikker escaped from the Netherlands to Great Britain in 1940 while the occupiers confiscated large portions of his collection.

The man whose family possessed the painting was Hendrik Seyffardt. During World War II he commanded a Dutch Waffen-SS volunteer unit on the Eastern Front. In 1943 he was killed by resistance fighters. The heirs of Jacques Goudstikker now want the painting returned. Seyffardt’s granddaughter claims she knew nothing about the painting’s origins. According to her, she inherited the artwork from her mother.

But that version is now beginning to collapse. Art expert Arthur Brand stated that another family member contacted him. The man reportedly learned only recently about his family connection to Seyffardt. According to him, the granddaughter herself allegedly said about the painting: “It was stolen from Goudstikker. You can’t sell it. Don’t tell anyone about it.” That gives the discovery an additional layer of explosiveness. Because it is no longer just about a missing painting, but also about how many looted Nazi-era artworks may still remain hidden inside private homes today - silently passed down through generations.

Trump Thanks the Attorney General - For Keeping Him Out of Prison

Donald Trump once again uttered a sentence that in any other political system would probably trigger days of outrage. In front of cameras, he praised current Attorney General Todd Blanche by saying Blanche had “prevented” him from spending years in prison. In doing so, the president of the United States effectively stated openly that the man now leading the Justice Department previously served as one of the chief defenders of Trump’s personal interests. Todd Blanche was one of Trump’s key attorneys in several legal cases before moving into the Justice Department. That exact transition has faced criticism for months because it increasingly blurs the line between personal loyalty and state prosecution.

What makes the statement especially brazen is not only its content, but the casualness with which Trump speaks about it. Not behind closed doors. Publicly, almost proudly. Because the American Justice Department is actually supposed to function independently - including from the president himself. That principle now increasingly appears damaged when a president openly declares that the current attorney general personally kept him out of prison. The real message behind the sentence is therefore impossible to miss. Trump no longer speaks about the justice system as an independent institution, but as a tool of personal power and loyalty. That is what makes the statement so audacious.

Trump’s Floating Ego Project Is Now Going Nuclear Too

Donald Trump’s planned warship is getting a nuclear reactor. The U.S. Navy has now officially confirmed exactly that. The already controversial prestige project is therefore becoming a gigantic multibillion-dollar program with even higher costs, even more risks and even more political questions. The planned vessel of the so-called Trump-class is expected to weigh between 30,000 and 40,000 tons, making it several times larger than modern destroyers. Planned systems include laser weapons, electromagnetic railguns and, according to Trump himself, even nuclear-capable cruise missiles. Experts already openly state that large parts of this technology remain barely operational today.

The Navy argues that a nuclear-powered ship could operate longer without resupply, maintain higher speeds and generate enormous amounts of electricity for new weapons systems. But that simultaneously makes the project far more complicated. The U.S. Navy has not operated nuclear-powered surface warships since the 1990s. Such operations are considered expensive, maintenance-heavy and logistically difficult. According to current documents, the Navy already expects the first three ships alone to cost around 43.5 billion dollars. Experts assume the nuclear reactor will drive the sums even higher. At the same time, the shipyards capable of servicing nuclear warships are already severely overloaded.

Most remarkable, however, is how strongly the entire project now appears tied personally to Donald Trump himself. The new battleship class was unveiled in December during a presentation at Mar-a-Lago. Trump claimed at the time that the first ship could be built within two and a half years - despite the fact that neither a final design nor a construction contract yet exists. Resistance within the Navy is therefore growing. Several specialists openly doubt whether such an enormous battleship even makes military sense. According to participants, even a study by the conservative Hudson Institute reportedly concluded that smaller ships would be far more practical.

Nevertheless, the project continues moving forward. Also because Trump’s allies inside the Pentagon are exerting enormous pressure. Former Navy Secretary John Phelan lost his position partly because he allegedly did not advance Trump’s shipbuilding plans quickly enough. The program is therefore increasingly becoming more than simply a military project. It now resembles an attempt to build a floating monument to a presidency - financed with billions from the American taxpayer.

Millions of Americans Now Believe Even Attacks on Trump Could Be Staged

Nearly one out of every four Americans now believes the attack on the Washington press gala in April was staged. That is the conclusion of a new poll commissioned by NewsGuard and conducted together with YouGov. It demonstrates how deeply distrust has spread throughout the United States. Particularly remarkable is that the doubts no longer come only from the usual fake-news corners of the internet, but now extend deep into the political center itself.

According to the poll, around 24 percent of respondents believe the attack on Donald Trump during the Washington Hilton event was staged. Among Democratic voters, the percentage is significantly higher. Roughly one-third of Democrats reportedly believe the attack was staged. The number is substantially lower among Republicans.

The alleged attacker, Cole Tomas Allen, has meanwhile been indicted by a grand jury in Washington. He faces charges including attempted murder of Donald Trump and additional serious offenses. Nevertheless, the speculation continues stubbornly. Shortly after the attack, numerous online claims spread alleging the incident had been politically exploited or even deliberately staged to mobilize support for Trump and his political agenda.

What is especially striking is how strongly such theories now reach across all political camps. Even earlier assassination attempts against Trump are doubted by many Americans. Around one-quarter of respondents now believe the attack in Butler was staged as well. The percentage is lower regarding the golf course incident in Florida, but still clearly measurable. The real damage no longer lies merely in isolated false claims. The numbers above all show how deeply trust in institutions, government and media has collapsed. More and more people now believe anonymous online posts more readily than official investigations or public statements.

At the same time, Donald Trump himself has contributed heavily to precisely this climate for years. Few politicians have used conspiracy narratives as aggressively as he has. Now that exact dynamic is increasingly turning against him as well. The result is a political environment in which even real acts of violence are no longer accepted as reality by millions of people.
