The U.S. destroyer USS Spruance has stopped a cargo ship sailing under the Iranian flag in the Gulf of Oman and deliberately disabled it. The USS Spruance initially warned the vessel, but the crew did not respond. A hole was then shot into the engine room. U.S. Marines subsequently boarded and took control of the ship. Trump justified the operation by citing existing sanctions and said the cargo is now being inspected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to available information, the vessel is the cargo ship TOUSKA, approximately 275 meters long and of a size comparable to an aircraft carrier. The ship is said to have attempted to bypass the U.S. naval blockade. The U.S. Navy intercepted it in the Gulf of Oman and repeatedly ordered it to stop. When the crew did not respond, the ship was rendered unable to maneuver by the targeted strike on the engine room. Since then, it has been fully under the control of U.S. forces. According to Washington, the TOUSKA is under U.S. Treasury sanctions due to previous illegal activities. Any potential talks in Islamabad are likely to have moved far out of reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
