Kennedy Jr. tells a story from an airplane. Donald Trump supposedly turned over a napkin, pulled out a pen, drew the Middle East from memory and noted troop strengths along the borders. Kennedy calls this “extraordinary depth.”

One takes a moment.

A president who has been waging a war for a month, whose objectives shift weekly, whose spokespeople have to explain what he himself said shortly before - this president impresses his Secretary of Health with a napkin sketch on an airplane. And Kennedy passes it on as if it were proof of something. Military troop levels are not fixed numbers. Borders shift, situation reports change hourly, and strategic decisions are not made from sketches on paper that cannot be verified afterward. What Kennedy describes is not a situational picture. It is an anecdote that sounds good and proves nothing.

In the end, the story says one thing above all: about Kennedy himself, who tells it, about the audience it is meant for, and about a political culture in which a napkin is considered proof of depth. The napkin was likely thrown away. The war continues.

Attack on US base in Saudi Arabia - AWACS hit, soldiers injured

Following the drone and missile attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, the consequences are becoming clearer than initially assumed. An E-3 Sentry AWACS aircraft of the US Air Force was heavily damaged, as were several tanker aircraft used for aerial refueling. This means the attack did not just hit equipment, but precisely the infrastructure that makes air operations possible in the first place. More than ten US soldiers were injured, two of them seriously, which further underlines the scale. The base is considered a central location for surveillance and coordination in the region, with AWACS aircraft playing a key role because they control airspace and detect movements early. When exactly these systems are hit, the situation shifts immediately, because response times increase and situational awareness is lost. The attack shows that even heavily secured facilities remain vulnerable when drones and precision weapons are used in combination. What matters now is not only the damage, but how quickly operational capability can be restored and whether further attacks will follow.

Ukraine exports drone defense - cooperation with Gulf states grows

As tensions in the Middle East increase, Ukraine is expanding its role as a military partner beyond Europe. President Zelenskyy has initiated agreements on defense cooperation with the United Arab Emirates and Qatar and has traveled to the region himself for this purpose. At the same time, Ukraine is sending more than 200 of its own specialists in drone defense to Saudi Arabia, the Emirates and Qatar, with additional personnel on the way to Jordan and Kuwait. This development shows how much the country has changed in a short period of time. From a state that is itself under massive attack, it is becoming a provider of know how that is urgently needed in other regions. The experience from its own war flows directly into training and support on site. Drone defense in particular has developed into a field in which Ukraine now plays a leading role. For the states in the region, this means access to proven methods, for Kyiv it opens new political and strategic connections.

Trump says cheese and butter have become cheaper. It is false. Cheese costs more than a year ago, butter has reached record highs, eggs have been a political issue of their own for months, and food inflation remains stubbornly above the level Trump inherited. The numbers are public, they come from agencies of his own administration. Trump has not read them, or he has read them and speaks anyway. Both are possible, both are equally revealing. What remains is a president who stands at a podium, says a sentence that is demonstrably false, and waits for someone to correct him at the checkout. Most people standing at the register right now do not need a fact check. They see the number on the display.

Boos in Győr - Orbán responds with attacks on his own citizens

At an appearance in the opposition leaning city of Győr, Viktor Orbán was booed by protesters. Instead of addressing this, he responded with sharp accusations and portrayed the demonstrators as representatives of foreign interests. They would support Ukrainian positions and want to send Hungarian money abroad. In doing so, he deliberately reverses the conflict and turns criticism within his own country into an external influence. Anyone who disagrees is not seen as part of society, but marked as a problem. This strategy is not new, it has been repeated for months and pushed further each time. Ukraine has become a fixed reference point, regardless of whether it fits the substance or not. It is not about specific decisions, but about creating a clear picture in which any criticism automatically appears suspicious. For the people on the ground, this means that their voices are not heard, but reinterpreted. What begins as protest ends in a narrative that delegitimizes it and at the same time uses it politically.

War on the web - how attacks have long reached everyday life

While people in Israel seek shelter from missiles in subway stations, a second attack is running in parallel that is barely visible. On Android devices, messages appear with supposed information about shelters, but behind the link is malware that grants access to cameras, location and data. The attack is timed precisely, exactly when people are already under pressure and need quick information. In this way, the moment of escape itself becomes the point of attack. At the same time, the number of digital attacks is rising significantly, thousands of attempts from different groups are targeting companies, authorities and infrastructure in multiple countries.

Many of these attacks do not cause direct damage, but they tie up resources, force rapid responses and increase pressure. It becomes particularly critical where systems are not up to date. In addition to companies, hospitals, utilities and data centers are also targeted, precisely the sectors that must function in everyday life. In individual cases, systems are completely shut down, not for financial gain, but to create disruption and uncertainty. At the same time, manipulated images and fake content are spreading at high speed, often supported by artificial intelligence that makes such content appear faster and more credible. This creates an environment in which not only physical attacks have an impact, but trust itself is undermined. Even when weapons fall silent, this part of the conflict will continue, because it is easier to execute and knows almost no boundaries.

Russia halts gasoline exports - pressure in the domestic market grows

Russia is apparently preparing a complete ban on gasoline exports, which is expected to take effect on April 1. All suppliers would be affected, without exceptions, after previously only traders and smaller refineries had been restricted. The background is growing pressure in the domestic market, where prices have risen significantly since the beginning of March. For AI-92 and AI-95, the increase is around eleven percent, while at the same time the traded volumes on exchanges are declining noticeably. The drop is particularly visible for higher grade gasoline. This creates a market in which reduced supply meets rising prices. For companies, exports remain significantly more attractive, especially due to high global energy prices in the wake of the Iran conflict. This is exactly what the government is now trying to prevent. Officially, the goal is to secure domestic supply and avoid price spikes. An acute shortage has not been confirmed, but the figures show how quickly the situation can shift. The instrument is not new, similar measures were already taken in 2023, also triggered by rising prices. What matters is that Russia is once again willing to regulate the market harshly as soon as control over prices and supply begins to falter.

In our own matter

“Minneapolis, recorded during an ICE operation with tear gas.”

What is created here every day costs time, money and conviction. Compared to right wing populism, and human rights also in relation to ICE, ground has been gained in many areas - not because it was easy, but because we did not stop.
