In our research, while working through the extensive data set of thousands of pages, we came across a case number that tells more than any press conference: 31E-HQ-C1461253. Anyone who works through the files labeled EFTA01683870 and EFTA01246277 encounters an internal FBI query that literally notes that a search was conducted for cases \u201cinvolving Jeffrey E. Epstein and Donald J. Trump regarding exploitation of minors.\u201d Not \u201cor,\u201d but \u201cand.\u201d That wording stands out, because investigative authorities generally choose their language precisely in internal queries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During our research, we found in the data sets two versions of the same document: EFTA01683870 and EFTA00129126. The sequential PDF numbering suggests that the two files were recorded 1,257,744 documents apart in the internal system. The two versions of the same document show different redaction patterns. This indicates that they were scanned and indexed in different sections or at different points within the archive system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both documents concern an FBI query in the Sentinel system in connection with a complaint received in 2016. On page 3 of EFTA01683870, the following note appears verbatim: \u201cSentinel query for cases involving Jeffrey E Epstein and Donald J Trump regarding exploitation of minors produced case no.: 31E-HQ-C1461253.\u201d The wording explicitly uses \u201cand\u201d and names both individuals in connection with the same alleged offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here our research raises two forensic questions: 1. If the case was closed, why did it still exist in 2016 as an active match in the Sentinel system? 2. Was this HQ case officially closed after 2007, or did it continue internally?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of processing the new complaint, the FBI examined whether an identical or comparable matter was already being handled under an existing case number. The query produced an existing proceeding under number 31E-HQ-C1461253. The new complaint was assigned to this existing proceeding rather than opened as a separate case. Notably, the redactions of the case number differ between EFTA01683870 and EFTA00129126. In one version the number is fully visible, in the other partially or differently redacted. This suggests that the redaction processes were not applied consistently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is also a documented OCR error in EFTA01246277. There the case number was visually displayed as \u201c31E-HQ-C1461253,\u201d but in the machine readable text it was stored as \u201c31E-HO-C1461258.\u201d Because search and redaction processes in digitized files are regularly conducted at the OCR level, an incorrect text recognition can result in documents not being properly captured during redaction runs or not being fully redacted. The combination of two document versions recorded far apart in the system, differing redactions of the same case number, and a demonstrable OCR error constitutes a documented inconsistency in the file management. Further assessments arise only from the overall review of the remaining records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research leads back to 2016. At that time, the FBI documented a new statement from a woman who alleged that in 1994, at the age of 13, she had been sexually abused by Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein. During the internal review, the agency searched the Sentinel system for existing proceedings with comparable content in order to determine whether a new case number should be issued or an existing proceeding supplemented. The result was an already existing proceeding with precisely this reference. The new statement was assigned to that existing case number 31E-HQ-C1461253.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This case number also appears in an FBI report from 2007 prepared for a grand jury. It describes the non prosecution agreement that the then US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida concluded with Epstein. The deal provided that Epstein would plead guilty, serve an 18 month sentence, undergo one year of supervision, and register as a sex offender. In the later publicly known version of the indictment, essentially Epstein alone appears as the defendant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FBI documents dated November 28, 2007 show how far the investigations against Jeffrey Epstein had already progressed at that time and how they were simultaneously politically contained. The document is marked \u201cGrand Jury Material\u201d and expressly refers to the non prosecution agreement concluded in October 2007 between the US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida and Epstein\u2019s defense attorneys. It states that Epstein was to plead guilty to one count of solicitation of prostitution. The plan called for 18 months in a state prison, one year of probation supervision, and lifetime registration as a sex offender. Other possible offenses or participants are not further detailed in the publicly accessible version, numerous passages are redacted. At the same time, the files document in detail telephone analyses, witness statements, and references to minor victims as well as to additional persons from Epstein\u2019s circle. The records thus convey a picture of extensive investigations and of a deal that reduced the proceeding to a single count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, in the grand jury report dated November 28, 2007, Ghislaine Maxwell is explicitly listed by name as a co defendant in a proceeding involving sexual trafficking of minors. Two additional names are redacted. This stands in tension with a statement by the US Department of Justice in 2025 before the Supreme Court, according to which the government had no knowledge of Maxwell\u2019s role at the time of the non prosecution agreement. The records show in any event that her name was listed as a participant in the proceeding in an FBI document one month after the deal was signed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technical details are also notable. In one version of a document, the case number was incorrectly captured through automatic text recognition. \u201c31E-HQ-C1461253\u201d became \u201c31E-HO-C1461258\u201d in the OCR text. Because search and redaction processes rely on correct machine recognition, an erroneous OCR can lead to certain passages being overlooked or inconsistently handled during redaction. In fact, the redactions of the case number differ between various document versions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another document, EFTA01660193, uses the alternative case number 31E-MM-108062, which is also connected to the 2006 to 2008 proceeding. The redactions there appear technically different from later releases, large text passages are covered by white boxes with black borders. Under Epstein\u2019s name another person is listed whose name is completely redacted. This name does not reappear in the later public indictment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The non prosecution agreement contains a passage in which the Department of Justice assures that it will not bring charges against \u201cpotential co conspirators.\u201d At the time, only the names Sarah Kellen, Adriana Ross, Lesley Groff, and Nadia Marcinkova became publicly known. Maxwell no longer appeared in the final Florida proceeding, even though she was listed as a co defendant in internal FBI records. In 2019, a former DOJ official, Harold Webb, spoke out in a letter. He described that not only the then US Attorney Alexander Acosta, but \u201cMain Justice\u201d in Washington had significantly steered the deal. Webb concluded that the Department of Justice had taken control in an unusual step in order to steer the proceeding in a particular direction. He speculated that given the magnitude, the White House might also have been involved. This assessment is a personal opinion, but it comes from within the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the letter from Harold Webb to the US Attorney\u2019s Office for the Southern District of New York dated December 18, 2020, there is a handwritten note with precisely this wording: \u201cFor the file \u2026 Helpful note that Epstein\u2019s non prosecution agreement was negotiated by the Department of Justice - which since 2019 has been \u2018obscured\u2019 by the media.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The internal note makes clear that the non prosecution agreement was not concluded solely at the level of the responsible US Attorney\u2019s Office in Florida, but was negotiated by the Department of Justice in Washington. At the same time, it expressly records that this role of the DOJ had not been transparently presented in public reporting since 2019.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Since 2006, four presidencies have intersected with the Epstein complex: under George W. Bush the proceeding began in Florida. In 2016, during the Obama administration, the FBI received new information. In 2020, Maxwell was indicted in the Southern District of New York, shortly before the US Attorney there, Geoffrey Berman, was dismissed. In 2021, Maxwell was convicted under President Biden. Today, in Trump\u2019s second term, a political battle is raging over the full release of the files. According to Pam Bondi\u2019s statement, the president has invoked executive privilege.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

None of this proves criminal guilt on the part of Trump. What the documents do show, however, is a web of contradictory statements, disappearing names, technically flawed redactions, and political interventions that have never been fully clarified over the years. When a case number appears both in a grand jury report and in a later complaint referring to the same individuals, that is not a marginal detail. It is an indication that the story is larger than what has been publicly litigated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether Donald Trump is criminally responsible can only be decided by a court. To this day, there is no final conviction against him in connection with Epstein. But the question - and this is shown by the research of the past days, in which we analyzed around 12,000 pages and compared them with our own records - why certain participants disappeared from documents, why internal knowledge and later statements do not align, and why redactions are so inconsistent, not only remains, but very clearly shows that certain information is not meant to reach the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Corruption rarely appears in a single piece of evidence. It appears in patterns. In case numbers that surface twice. In names that are first mentioned and then erased. In deals that are unusually generous. Whoever promises transparency must deliver full transparency. As long as central documents are only fragmentarily visible, the story remains incomplete. And that is the real scandal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
