In Minneapolis, movement is emerging for the first time in the deadlocked situation surrounding the immigration operations. As we had already learned earlier from reliable sources<\/a><\/strong> , Mayor Jacob Frey has now confirmed that he personally spoke with President Donald Trump about the hardline approach of federal authorities. In this phone call, he made clear that the current situation in the city was no longer sustainable. According to the mayor, Trump agreed that things could not continue this way. As a result, the first federal agents are expected to leave Minneapolis starting Tuesday. Frey announced that he will continue to push for the remaining forces of Operation Metro Surge to be withdrawn as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump himself confirmed the conversation on social media and spoke of a good exchange. He wrote that there had been a great deal of progress. He did not provide specific details. What is clear, however, is that the announcement of the withdrawal coincides with growing political and legal pressure. Following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, the federal government remains under scrutiny as protests and lawsuits continue. At the same time, political accountability in Washington is coming more sharply into focus. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has agreed, after months of resistance, to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee in early March. It would be her first appearance there. The commitment follows sharp criticism from both parties, particularly after public statements from her department portrayed Pretti as an armed threat, even though video footage raises doubts about that account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several senators had voiced their frustration that Noem had so far avoided a regular oversight hearing. One Republican senator even temporarily blocked personnel decisions in order to apply pressure. The Democratic chair of the committee now stated that, given the violence and the deaths associated with operations of the Department of Homeland Security, it was incomprehensible that the secretary had evaded questioning for so long. In his view, she should have been held to account much earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announced partial withdrawal from Minneapolis therefore does not mark an end point, but the first crack in the existing course. The city has succeeded in forcing Washington to respond. Whether additional agents will follow and whether the strategy will fundamentally change remains unclear. What is certain is that Minneapolis is no longer willing to accept a state of exception - and that the political confrontation has now reached the committees of Congress as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
