Several members of parliament are preparing to block the EU-USA deal after Trump once again threatened Europe with additional tariffs. As Washington increases pressure and publicly attacks allies, the political distance is deepening. The escalation from the White House reinforces the impression of American self-isolation. At the same time, Europe is sending a deliberately opposite signal. On Saturday, the European Union and the South American trade bloc Mercosur signed a comprehensive free trade agreement in Paraguay. It paves the way for what would be the EU’s largest trade agreement to date. The timing is no coincidence. While tariffs are being used as a threat, Brussels is opting for openness. The European Commission speaks of a strategic decision. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the agreement sends a very strong message to the world. One chooses fair trade instead of tariffs. One chooses a productive long-term partnership instead of isolation. In Europe, this is understood as a response to Trump’s course. Trade policy becomes a matter of principle here. Protectionism stands against cooperation. Pressure against reliability. The EU makes clear which path it intends to take.

Minnesota - Dancing Against ICE!

In Minneapolis, people stood with arms linked in falling snow and danced as federal ICE officers withdrew, while chants like “Na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye!” echoed through the streets. The mood is nonetheless marked by anger and grief following the killing of Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother, by an ICE agent earlier this month, which triggered nationwide protests. Thousands of residents demonstrated in the city to protest the heavy presence of the federal agency and its use of force. Local politicians sharply condemned the operations, called for transparency, and drew comparisons to the city’s own history of police violence. The ongoing confrontations led to legal restrictions on ICE tactics and criticism of the administration’s escalation policy. Despite freezing temperatures, the protest remained determined, demanding an end to federal intervention and justice for victims of excessive force.

Indigenous peoples in Minnesota have visibly and collectively participated in the protests. With drums and signs, they reminded observers that state violence, dispossession, and control have a long history that was never a thing of the past for them. The amount donated is growing minute by minute, carried by many individual contributions. The goal is to cushion concrete power and energy outages. Generators secure hospitals, water pumps, communications, and basic supply. This is not about gestures, but about function. While attacks damage infrastructure, civil society responds quickly and directly. The campaign is public, transparent, and without political staging. Every amount counts, every delivery creates room to maneuver. What is emerging here is practical support in the daily life of a country under attack. Poland shows that help does not need to be announced in order to be effective.

Provocation in Uniform

In Minneapolis, Border Patrol chief Gregory Bovino appeared publicly at the protests, surrounded by armed units and accompanied by a demonstrative display of power. His uniform and demeanor immediately triggered associations among demonstrators that went far beyond current politics and evoked historically burdened images. On the ground, this was not read as a security measure, but as targeted intimidation against a protesting civil society. Bovino ordered further repression while the situation was already tense. The scene appeared less like operational command and more like political staging. State authority presented itself not with restraint, but demonstratively. Minneapolis has experience with such symbolism and reacts sensitively. History does not return identically, but it leaves patterns. First it was tragedy. Then it becomes farce.

The Weidel Show

It is hard to understand how the rhetoric of Alice Weidel finds approval. What follows is not analysis, but staging. Exaggeration replaces facts, performed AfD outrage replaces evidence. The tone appears polished, but without substance. The attempt to seem witty and sovereign remains a claim. It is a sequence of exaggerations that only works if no one contradicts it. Anyone listening should notice that no reality is being described here. Instead, an image is being constructed that is meant to feed fear. It is not strength to repeat the same claims over and over. From the first moment she resisted the arrest and continued to struggle even after she had already been placed in handcuffs. The agents still used physical force against her and pushed her into a van. Another officer deployed pepper spray even though the woman was already restrained at that point. During the transport she tried to free herself and fell, hitting the asphalt hard. There was no visible de-escalation. There was no pause. The operation showed no obvious restraint. The incident occurred in the context of escalating ICE presence in Minnesota. It illustrates an approach where enforcement takes priority over protection. State force was applied against an individual who was already handcuffed. This is the documented sequence of that morning. An attorney was reached quickly and took over the case immediately. At the same time we spoke with two eyewitnesses who agreed without hesitation to confirm the incident and the exact sequence in writing and provided video. A few hours later the woman was released from custody. A criminal complaint has been filed.

Copenhagen Contradicts Washington

Thousands of people gathered in front of the U.S. embassy in Copenhagen to protest Trump’s plan to place Greenland under American control. Signs read “No means no” and “Hands off Greenland.” The protesters made clear that this is not about trade, but about self-determination. Many pointed out that decisions about Greenland are not made in Washington. The message of the demonstration was unambiguous and calm at the same time. No violence, no escalation, but clear boundaries. The proximity to the U.S. embassy was deliberately chosen. It was meant to show where the objection is directed. Greenland was understood not as an object, but as a society. The crowd made clear that European solidarity is not negotiable. The protest remained steadfast and united. Copenhagen set a visible sign on that day.

Republican Rift to the North

Republican Senator Thom Tillis is publicly distancing himself from the White House line. The trigger is the treatment of allies who had sent a small number of soldiers to Greenland for training purposes. Tillis calls the reaction bad for America, bad for American companies, and bad for America’s partners. The beneficiaries, he says, are not the United States, but Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and other adversaries who want to see a divided NATO. He is particularly sharp in criticizing a close circle of advisers who rely on coercion. They are actively pushing to put pressure on the territory of an ally. That is not only wrong, but stupid. Tillis makes clear that red lines are being crossed here. This is not about strength, but about self-inflicted damage. The criticism comes from within the party itself. It is directed not at Trump personally, but at the course being pursued. Greenland thus becomes a symbol of a larger conflict. Alliance loyalty stands against displays of power. The rift runs visibly through the Republican Party.

AWFUL - How Right-Wing Networks Instrumentalize the Death of Renee Good

After the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE officer, a new enemy image has been established in right-wing online milieus. Good is not perceived as someone who was killed, but as a projection surface. Right-wing commentators portray her as violent, irrational, and dangerous. They claim she provoked her own death. Her partner is marked alongside her, her political stance criminalized. The term is now circulating systematically, amplified by radio hosts, influencers, and comment sections.
