Large banners read: \u201cJD PROTECTS PEDOPHILES,\u201d accompanied by the accusation \u201cGOP = Guardians Of Pedophiles.\u201d Some of the protesters carried hand-painted signs that picked up the words in bright colors and linked them to the Jeffrey Epstein affair. For the people of Ohio, who once celebrated Vance as a down-to-earth success story, this moment was a rupture \u2013 a loud rebellion against what they see as moral failure in Washington. The demonstrators knew exactly when and where to appear. The event in Canton marked Vance\u2019s opportunity to celebrate his role as the main advocate of \u201cOne Big Beautiful Bill,\u201d a legislative package that combines tax cuts, border crackdowns, and massive cuts to social programs. But instead of applause, he was met with the anger of an outraged crowd. Several reporters, including Julie Carr Smyth of the Associated Press, wanted to know how Vance viewed the growing calls to release all Epstein documents \u2013 a question the vice president answered with visible irritation. \u201cI will not participate in a witch hunt,\u201d Vance said sharply when the questions did not subside. But his words went unheard in the heated atmosphere.
